What I did on my sick leave

Around the World in Ninety Spliffs

Greetings from Amsterdam.

What can I say? I figured I deserved a break. I’m writing this from a cyber café just off Nieuwendijk. It feels like another world - I’ve already been mown down by a bicycle, but I think the cyclist fared a lot worse than me. I’m usually lucky like that ;)

I’ll be upfront about it. I’ve gone AWOL. Sure, I announced my intentions to the people who needed to know, and it went down like a nappy full of shit. I have a blood test on Monday and my sick leave runs out in less than two weeks, meaning that technically I should be back at work. I’m unlikely to be back for either of those dates. C’est la vie. Life is so busy sometimes that it’s impossible to fit everything in.

You see, this is a break with a difference, because I have no idea where I’ll end up yet. The last year has been hell, and I need to do this to believe in myself again. For as long as my bank account and credit card hold out, I’m planning on going where I please, when I please and doing what the hell I want - in style. No backpacks, no shitty hostels – I have a suitcase big enough to fit myself into, and I’m currently staying at the first of several 4/5* hotels.

The world is my playground. :catroar:

Tonight I’ll be meeting with an escort, starting with some champagne, then hitting the town. I’ve never ever done something like this before… but fuck, it feels good to be doing it! :nana:

I could quite happily stay here for a while, but as I’ve already been here six times I’m just using it as a nice chilled out start to my spree. My next plan is to head west. I’ll give you a clue – Bob Marley

I know it sounds like I’ve gone crazy, and maybe I have – but I’m having a fucking ball! :D I needed this. Life has become fun again, and to hell with the consequences.

I’ll post as often as I can to keep you updated. No lectures, please. I followed my heart.

 :rose:

Wow ... hope you have a blast, Scherazade. Hell, of course you're going to have a blast.

Hope you check in often.

No lectures from me. How could there be, I did exactly the same 8 months ago to the day.

If its what your heart wants, and it is in any way possible, then you have to do it.

Happiness is everyone's right, however fleeting. It's your life, do with it what you will.

Just don't do anything illegal, anything that will hurt another person, or anything that you would be ashamed of in anyone else.

After that, the world's your playground.

Enjoy.

I should be able to - I'm not a fan of third world places, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem... unless I head to Morocco... :)

Oh, we're playing word games, are we?

OK. Anything other than smoking pot....but then in Amsterdam if I'm correct, that's not considered illegal, is it?

Just don't take unecessary and reckless risks that could bring this whole escape plan crashing down around your ears.

By the way, delighted to hear about the escort. ;) Along the lines of the ones we discussed some time ago??

When I got off the plane in Jamaica, I was told: "Marijuana is illegal in our country, so ... don't get caught."

:D

"Sometimes in life, ya just gotta say, 'What the fuck!' " Risky Business

Your comment about "no lectures" made me smile and think they're not needed anyway, because they probably go on inside your head already. And that makes me think that despite the surface appearance of this post, yours are the acts of a smart, level-headed young woman who is in touch with the concept of the balanced good life.

I wrote this yesterday about the message the flowers in my garden seem to say: " 'Celebrate, revel, enjoy, party, live!' They're just dumb flowers so they don't finish the thought, but I do: 'For winter will come and this will be but a memory, so fill the cup to the brim and drink deep today!' "

Drink deep, darling. From the little bit I've seen of you here, I'm pretty confident that when the season for working and producing in your life comes, you'll work and produce with the best of them. :rose:

We're playing all kinds of games :D

Don't worry - I plan on coming back in one piece, preferably without a prison sentence... although a women's jail could be quite an interesting experience... ;)

Escort? Possibly... ;) She's called Nicole. :)

Midnight Express

Other than that ... have at it. :)

Edited to add: And listen to Mat.

Don't worry - I won't be going to Turkey :rose:

I always listen to everyone. It's whether or not it actually goes in that's the problem  Mat has a much better success rate than most, though :rose:

There was a Rasta dude who made an awesome stone anklet for me for a mere 400J (less than $7). I swear he could smoke his dreads and get stoned. No doubt.

Thanks, Roxanne  :rose:

For what it's worth, I did read the comment about the flowers in your garden... and it made me even more determined to do this.

I don't really know about smart and level-headed at the moment, but I'm beyond the point of caring. I've just read an email from one of my colleagues, who's actually a very good friend. She's only 23 and has just been signed off with severe depression. She's in a mess, and it's entirely down to that fucking school

On Monday I'll probably have another SMS from my department, requesting more work. This is where I'm going to let the fox out amongst the chickens and send one back, saying that if they want to come and collect it from Montego Bay, I'll be more than happy to meet them  Bear in mind these are people who don't even go out of Wales on holiday. Suckers! :nana:

Ok, I'm getting well beyond level-headed now. I think I need to go and sleep for a while... ;)

Is "have fun" a lecture? :)

No... I'm doing that already  :rose:

Going to have a sleep now. I need my energies for later. I'll try and log on if I get the chance. Otherwise I'll update from either Kingston or Montego Bay ;)

Be good.

My only lecture is, 'How dare you go and not bring me!' I'm beyond jealous (and I want pictures of Nicole :) ). Have a good trip sweety. Be crazy, but be safe.

Oh goodness, I was waiting patiently for the news of where you would end up! Swing by the South of France next time- I am just about ready to break away too...

Have a tremendous amount of fun please? And look after Zade. She means a lot to me.

do what you must. its awesome for the soul. wish you could come see us here...keep us posted?
:rose:

Wow. And I thought you were pretty damned cool before you did this...

The Earl

Edited, cause I didn't realise how it sounded without the emphasis. Thanks Rox!
