As a group they seem to think very highly of themselves, at least on the internet they act like they are the sh*t, but what have they given the world? I am not talking about isolated individuals but as a group and a culture.
I don't see bupkis that they have done that is cool, talented, ground breaking or anything else in a cultural sense. Their music is complete rubbish, or if that's too subjective, certainly not groundbreaking compared to past generations.
Most of their cultural trends are just tweeks of stuff left over from the 90s (tattoos, shaved public hair, clothes, etc). The beards are just ugly and unsanitary. What is "hip" about a hipster anyway. Hip is a word that was groovy in like the 50s or something. We would have laughed at anyone calling themselves "hip" in the 80s. Or beat them up. Or both.
It is a case of the self-esteem generation all growed up I think. You don't have to actually do anything special to think you are.
