What happens when evil fights evil?

A good example was Hitler invading the Soviet Union during WW2. Since Germany was at war with England and others, those nations took the side of the USSR, but I doubt any of them liked it. :(

I think that when evil fights evil, there is a futile struggle between the two sides and many innocent and good people suffer from the collateral damage caused by that battle between two evils.

When elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers.

Russia was no threat to most nations at that time. Germany was.

It's better to support "teh evil" to get rid of your threat, but it was only Russia where Americans haven't forget it was the evil.

In case of Al-Qaida, they had.

This is what war is about. No matter who is evil.

The US armed and funded the Taliban to help fight the Soviets when they invaded Afghanistan in the 1980's.

Winston Churchill

“If Hitler invaded hell I would make at least a favorable reference to the devil in the House of Commons.”

He was referring to his support for the Anglo-Soviet pact after Hitler's Germany had invaded the USSR. He considered the Communist USSR and Stalin as evil, and that their pact with Hitler to partition Poland had started WW2 in Europe, but any aid, from anyone, was welcome.

Of course the USSR became the major combatant in the European theatre, destroying more German units, and suffering many more casualties than the rest of the Allies combined.

Although his military advisers thought the Soviet Union would face defeat within weeks or months, Churchill offered a 500-1 bet that the USSR would still be fighting and winning in two years' time. He would have won that bet.

The price for a pact with 'the devil' was paid at Yalta when Stalin won the ability to annex Eastern Europe within the Communist Bloc.

Tell Finland about Russia being no threat. Or Poland or Estonia or Lithuania or Latvia or, later, Czechoslovakia and the rest of eastern Europe.

No. They had started a war with Finland, and agreed with Nazi Germany to carve up Poland (again!).

Besides their conquest of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. In addition, they did take part of Czechoslovakia during the partition of that country and later held it and other eastern European nations in thrall until the 1980's.

Depends.

Are there good men saying nothing?

Because if that is the case, evil wins.

I vote we set eyer and Miles up in a cage, naked and armed with corkscrews, and find out.

The greater of two evils wins.

Or there is a futile struggle between the two evils that causes a lot of collateral damage against innocent and well-meaning people.
