What Happened

Well, I would have the say that the 90s and the MTV video directors brought movies and TV down a few notches. Too much camera movement, cuts from shot to shot are too quick, dialogue is too "hip", too many closeup shots, too many popular songs stuck in where they don't belong, and just a hell of a lot of crap that you didn't get in the 80s and earlier.

The 80s were my favorite movie decade. Even really bad movies were really watchable and fun. I don't know how they did it, but if Big Trouble in Little China were made today, it probably wouldn't be anywhere near as good.

Look at French films - they still have the photography and the art but don't make money.

The real creativity in film-making is in Bollywood.

I LOVE movies from the 80's! My friends and I are making a list of movies that we have to see in an 80's movies marathon. B)

I'd like to see that list (of course, I'll probably gaffaw at half of your choices and tell you how wrong you are about some of them, but I still want to see it ;) )

How wrong I am about what? Wanting to see them? I'm not claiming that they're masterpieces, only that i enjoy them. Also, these are only my choices; I've forgotten a lot of what my friends chose cos many of them I'd never seen before.

Adventures in babysitting
Back to the future trilogy
Beverly hills cop 1 & 2
Cat's eye
Crocodile Dundee 1 & 2
Ferris beuler's day off
Heathers
Pump up the volume
Romancing the stone
Short Circuit 1 & 2
The jewel of the nile
The last starfighter
The secret of my success
Teen wolf
Tron (although I already wath this at least twice a year anyway)
Video drome
Wargames

As you can see, I tend to go for the more fun, less serious movies. Oh, and I have a thing for Michael J. Fox.

Actually, that's a pretty good list...

The only two I would take issue with are Short Circuit 2 (never should have been made), and you leftout Romancing the Stone (Jewel of the Nile is a sequel to it).

Well, actually, I don't like Secret of my Success, Teen Wolf, or Adventure in Babysitting either, but I wouldn't call them bad movies, so that's just a choice thing ;)

Fast Times at Ridgemont High
The 'Brat Pack' movies

and, the lesser teen sex comedies:
The Porky's series
Private School
Police Academy (and sequels...)

There's no 'spying on three Playmates in the shower' movies anymore. At one time, a girls' shower scene and crashing up some police cars was all it took to get a green light.

1) I totally understand the problem with Short Circuit 2, seeing as how it didn't have the two main characters from the original movie.

2) I DID include Romancing the stone.

3) I don't even know if I would care for these movies if they came out now. Having them in my childhood plays a significant part in my appreciation of them, I'm sure.

4) I forgot; I know that my friends would collectively add The breakfast club to the list.

5) Holy crap! Police Academy! I forgot all about those movies! I used to LOVE watching those, but I don't know if I'd feel the same now.

6) Dear God, I can't believe that I forgot my favorite scary movie of all time: The Thing.

How the hell did I miss Romancing the Stone three times? I looked at that post over and over again for it, and skipped right over it...

Easy - there was such an abundance of awesome movies that your eyes couldn't focus on any one title. :p
