I honestly think that it's largely generational. You grew up in a time where guys think it's okay to send pictures of their dicks to a woman they've never even talked to before (or to women they've talked to as friends before). So many guys under 25 (generalizing here, I realize, and I also realize I could up that age a bit) only think about their cock and their XBox.

It also doesn't help that you're on a site that is, primarily, sex-related.

Its a fringe lifestyle now, especially on Lit. Quite a lot of people assume that because Lit is a site dedicated to sex in some form or another that everyone already has their pants down and their genitals in hand. There are some of the others though, more interested in a person's mind than the contents of their pants. Around here though, its like diamond mining. I agree - I'm 37 and consider myself to be 'traditional' and would like to think polite / gentlemanly. I would add to RawHumor's points that a lot of today's generation want / expect 'instant' gratification. Everything is now, now, now or can't be bothered.

Most of the well mannered, romantic gentlemen are either in relationships or well above your stated age preference.
Seriously, the average 19-25 year boy is rarely anything but just that: a boy. (Gotta be a man before one can be a gentle-man.) Most were raised by parents with little concept of manners, much less mannered well, and most are still thinking with their dicks, which rarely lends itself to romance.

Now, I'm not saying you should lower or amend your standards.
What I am saying is having high standards and an unwillingness to compromise will tend to create a Venn diagram with a very limited area of overlap.
