The main page has a "Top Stories" column next to the fresh stories column. What makes something a top story? It seems like a lot of the stuff I've seen in there had barely any threads.

The rating - that's what. The highest-rated stories are there, and when there are only one or 2 threads in a story, each rated with 5, it's not surprising for the story to be on that list.

actually its a messed up system. A story with a 4.0 will beat a story with a higher score if the story has fewer threads. I guess it counts unrated threads as zero or something. So all it really tells is basically new stories that someone liked. Enough to give a vote. I still havn't figured out how someone votes on a story with only one thread though.

I believe it calculates the average rating wrong.

Just a little bit. One story of mine has a 4.7 with 256 votes when I look at it under my stories but a 0.0 if its on the main page.

if you look at the stories almost all of them on the list have maybe 1-2 threads at most. Many of them are probably just forgotten stories.

1. finanzierung der sucht. 1 thread <-- hasn't been updated in two years.
2. a cheerleader story. 1 threads
3. Awakening. 2 threads
4. Quads. 1 thread
5. Searching Further. 2 Threads
6. Fantasy Fullfillment. 5 Threads
7. Collage Lessons. 2 Threads <--- hasn't been updated any this year.
8. Stepdad gets prime rewards. 2 Threads
9. Pirates Gold. 2 Threads <--- hasn't been updated this year.
10. Something about Alice. 1 Thread
