I don't think you have a choice for how it's going to appear on the site. I just submit stuff in text format, although if you're going to use things like bold-face, underlining, or italics, I think that the RTF (Rich Text Format) would work for that.

Ditto to what jehoram said — with plain text it's a simple upload into the story text section of the story submission window. Lit maintains a uniform font to the best of my knowledge.

Submitting with imbedded html for Bold, Italics, Underline, and Center is just fine. As far as font goes Lit has control of that so don't waste your time. The story will come out the same as all the others, but with the new reader the user as the ability to change the font face and size.
