that makes it unique and interesting? That might cause folks to say " yeah, I want to visit there". Or "damn, that's cool".

Maybe it's something that you are proud of,,, or not.

Not talking countries,,, just cities, states, provinces, or areas.

Sometime ago, there WAS a thread like this,,, I'm too damned lazy to dig it up though.

I live in the mountains of Virginia, USA,

Here we have a gaggle of caves, both developed and not. We also have covered bridges, the Blue Ridge Parkway, a transportation museum that features restored rail cars from the era of steam. A booming friendly downtown outdoor farmers market this time of the year. Tons of B&B's in restored older houses. Rivers that are highly suited to float fishing.

I brought that thread back to the top. It was a very good thread.

Hope you don't mind CW.

Where to start???

Here in Kentucky, of course the first thing to come to mind is horses, the beautiful Thoroughbred horse farms around Lexington and thru out the state and Churchill Downs familiar twin spires in Louisville.

There are many beautiful lakes for all manner of water sports, fishing and boating. Our State parks system has some great areas of natural beauty preserved for future generations. Mamoth Cave in Cave City, Kentucky has one of the largest cave systems in the country with many parts open for tours.

College sports with UofK and UL and the minor league teams in both Louisville and Lexington make for many enjoyable outings. The hoopla surrounding the Kentucky Derby last almost a month before the event with many fun free activites, including Thunder over Louisville, the largest annual fireworks show in the country.

I could go on but I already sound like an ad for the chamber of commerce. And I haven't even talked about the museums and the theatres.

Ah South Florida...we have it all! First and foremost rednecks, we got 'em! Tourists...we got 'em! I guess the obvious comes to mind, beaches, dirty bananas, dirty politics, really really old ballot boxes, really really old people ; all with liscences, frogs , and titty bars...welcome to South Florida: a nice place to visit but ya' wouldn't want to live there. :)

Ah, home.

Well, Syracuse, New York is the second rainy-est, second cloudy-est city in the United States, based on statistics gathered by the National Meteorological Society. Other than that, we've got nothing I can think of that any other mid-sized, slowly dying, Rust Belt town doesn't. Well, there's the Erie Canal Museum, and mid-sized city versions of all the usual city attractions like the (formerly Burnett Park) Zoo, The Museum of Science and Technology (called the MOST by locals), which has an IMAX theater. Seriously, though, there's not much to this place.

Oh, and there's a push on to expand the local mall so that it's the second biggest shopping mall on the North American Continent, and the biggest in the United States. Plans include a large Hotel and Convention Center (no word as yet on what Hotel Chain will get it), and an Aquarium. All this aimed at bringing some tourism and more business travellers into our humble city.

Corn, Convicts, Gangs.... oh.. and there's a lake where I live.

Dirty nasty, floating dead fish, but it used to get celebs from Chicago to visit us.

*shrugs*

My city (little redneck city it is) has just approved plans for a Cabelas Store here. Hunters and Fishermen and sportspeople will reconize that name.

It will have a water park and at least 4 hotels are supposed to be coming in with it too.

Birmingham, England

We have got crime, polution, factories and millioans of dull gray buildings. There are also many nice steeples a weird looking round tower block called the Rotunda and an ancient town hall.

Well, lets see, Cincinnati just had the riots. We had the Charles Keating fiasco. We have the what, (Bengals and I'm embarassed) we have the Acquarium which I have not been to, but the best thing is the Fireworks display put on by WEBN that will knock your socks off. We have a 5 star restaurant, the Maisonette. Oh yeah, we have no porno.

For the next year, I’m in a place that has little (to my mind) to recommend it besides really wonderful water that comes out of the tap. Since I was born and raised and lived all my life but for these few aberrant couple years in California, having water come out of the tap that one can both drink and is water-colored and scented (clear and odorless, as water should be but isn’t in places like most of California) is quite amazing and wonderful.

My real home, however, is one of the premier places to live and visit in the world. Located an hour north of San Francisco in the rolling hills of California’s famous “Wine Country”, my area has wineries and redwoods, rushing rivers and world-class museums, migrating gray whales and topography varied enough to appeal to every level of hiker. It’s a mecca for foodies, a magnet for freethinking people of all colors and shapes and kinks, and the vocal environmentalists that permeate all levels of northern CA politics have insured a really clean and incredibly beautiful environment for everyone. First run plays and musicals and exhibits come through my area with regularity, as do top ranked musical people from all music genres. Charlie Brown’s creator, Charles Schultz, built a world-class ice rink in Santa Rosa and in it (besides being there for all the area kids year round) there’s an ice show every December in which really famous skaters take part. LOTS of famous singers, musicians, actors, etc live in the general area and it’s not unusual at all for movies to be filming at various locations in the county.

I am so homesick.

(IndianaJones is from here, too, the east part of the Bay area instead of my northern end, and can corroborate my claims.)

Make people want to come here?

I want to leave, myself. But people come and come and keep coming. Why. That 5 foot 2 money grubbing rat. Yep -- I live in Orlando -- Home of Disney Weird, Epnot, Tragic Kingdom, Movie Studios, Looney Land, Swimming with Dolphins. Yep Tourists, tourists, tourists, traffic, traffic, traffic, motels, hotels, restaurants of every shape and sized, outlet malls. Anything and everything associated with tourists. And heat, humidity, smoke in the air when you get up in the morning from brush fires - cuz there is a three year drought. And all our lovely lakes are dry. Did I mention I hate it here??????????

Naked Hunny... you live in Iowa? that sounds awfully like SE Iowa, since there's a big outlet store and the Amana Colonies..

anyway.. what we got here (NW Iowa) is LOTS of corn, LOTS of beans, sheep, cattle, and LOTS of pigs... that pretty much sums the area up...

*phew*
as much as i'd love for you to live reasonably close, i'd much rather you live somewhere far, far away from Iowa! tis horrible here! :p

*sigh* *wiping away a single tear*

you are making me homesick for VA :(

My second home... and the one I was born in.

West Virginia

"country roads....take me home.... to the place....I belong........ west virginia...mountain mama.....take me home.... country roads."

and as the slogan says 'Almost Heaven'

We have the glorious green mountains..... lots of trees that in the fall make you breathless with their arrangements of golds...reds and oranges.....
Coal Mines.......Beautiful Bed and Breakfasts.....the only river other than the Nile that flows up........ Natural Gorges.... Parks everywhere......

and who can forget Whitewater Rafting... :)

My location is a play on the big city I live next to being called "Lost Wages" because of the gambling.

I live in North Las Vegas, which is commonly abbreviated No. Las vegas, hence "No Lost Wages"

It's not true, of course we have casinos here too, so you can lose your paycheck just as easily in our little town as you can down on "The Strip".

Auckland, New Zealand

My location is right near the bottom of the world but I don't live on the main land. I live about 30 minutes away from Auckland, Waiheke Island

All I can say to make it seem like a good place to go is that it has a ton of scenery, lots of nice people and a lot more scenery.

I think that's the only thing this place has going for it but I am usually too hard on this little island. You will love it here- there aren't a hell of a lot of people around here which is what makes us friendly. There aren't a hell of a lot of things to do around here but I would say that the scenery more than makes up for it.

Come visit this little island paradise.
