If he would do whatever he could to earn money - why isn't he working?

Grocery store, any fast food place, etc. Those places are always hiring.

Hard workers that will do whatever it takes - do whatever it takes. They don't follow women who look like easy marks and beg for a hand out.

Ok so i just got home from Home Depot back of my truck is open and all my flowers and stuff were waiting to have me get them out. I got my daughter settled with her dinner and heard my doorbell ring.

There is this gentleman standing there, he had ridden his bicycle, he said he noticed I had items that needed to be unloaded and told me that how hard he has been looking for work but cant find any and that he has 4 kids and his baby is now out of formula as of this morning and it was a pleading not just comming from his lips but from his eyes too.

He said something about public assistance i cant remember what. But his thing was that he was a hard worker and would do whatever he could to earn money. He asked if i knew of anyone had odd jobs that needed to be done or if I had anything, anything he could do to earn money. He said more that i am not remembering right now.

Now i live in the suburbs, this does not happen around here. I gave him the $5.00 I had on me and just wished i had more right there.
I told him that if he came back in the morning i would come up with something for him to do to earn some money.
He didnt want to just take the hand out he said he'd unload my truck for it. I should mention i have a big ass Rottie who was keeping a real good eye on him from the back yard

Do you think he would lie? Yes i realize how niave that question is.
I mean that is swallowing your pride to go around randomly looking for work like that.
I want to go buy formula and groceries for him.
My children do not want for anything, their bellys are full everynight and they have everything they could want and need.
How could i sleep at night if i turned him away.
Maybe he was sent to me because god knew i would help him.
Am i nuts?

You did the right thing. Jobs are hard to come by these days. And even with a job four kids ain't cheap to feed. Good thing the Rott was keeping an eye out though.

I get this kind of thing all the time. It really irritates me when somebody shows up late in the afternoon looking for any odd job. Most of these guys are homeless and for different reasons can not or will not go to a shelter. You can't smoke or drink in most shelters.
If I have work for them, I put them to work. You only have to do that once to get a reputation and they quit showing up.
The baby formula and the dr's visit is always bullshit. There never is a family waiting for him. A man with those kind of reponsibilities will find a more effiecient way than begging.

I wish I could help these men, but there is nothing I can do to helpt their real problem.

If you really do feel for this person and can afford it - there is no harm in buying formula and diapers. Make sure you open the packages though so they can't be taken back and exchanged for money.

Seriously though - consider the type of person who would keep having children and not be able to feed them. There is public assistance out there and no amount of pride should stop a parent from doing whatever it takes to feed their children. What is the difference from taking a handout from a random person and taking public assistance?

Yeah, but sometimes life doesnt work out that way.

On one hand it is unsettling, I am alone here with my kids and dogs, my neighbor 2 doors down is a cop, i think i will ask him to just keep an eye on me here just in case.

true... so he has no car for transportation... but he does have 4 kids, right? He's eligible for lots of gov. add and help in job placement. That's a fact......... why wouldn't he take or search that out?? Is trying to hide himself or something?? Worse case he's scoping out a single moms place......... best case he's just stupid as hell to NOT know the Gov will help a family with four kids...

A Hard worker is a rear trait these days...

God its heartbreaking though!
and i feel like what if he does have a hungry family at home
And the thank you Jesus's when i handed him the money topped it off for me.

Better yet - if you are affiliated with a church send him their way.

Most all churches are willing to help a down and out family at least once.
