There's a brilliant food programme on examining why children are fussy. They've done a fantastic experiment seeing if peer pressure can encourage kids ot eat healthy food. They brought 4 child actors into a school, had the pupils talk to them and get really star-struck, then made them all eat lunch together. The kids whow wouldn't touch their vegetables copied the example set by the cool acting kids and ate stuff they wouldn't touch at home.

Very very funny.

So here's the question - what do you like to eat now that you wouldn't touch when you were younger?

Umm.... *runs through food choices* Nope, I wasn't a picky eater. Wait. I've got it... Men! :D

Brocolli, Brussel Sprouts, Squash (of any kind) and Sweet Potatoes, these are the things I wouldn't touch as a child.

Now the only thing I won't eat is Okra. Never had it as a kid but was introduced to it by my wife. Yuck.

Woof.

I'm a fish girl now ;) Wouldn't touch it for love nor money as a nipper, but smoked mackerel pate, scallops, plaice - yum.
Still haven't got my tastebuds round Tuna or anchovies yet though... <gag>

Tomatos - I loathed them when I was younger. I adore them now.

I've never really been a picky eater, though. I was the fourth of five kids, and we always had strays (friends of my older siblings) that arrived and just sort of never left. I think at one point there were my two parents and something like nine kids in the house. If anyone was a picky eater, they got over it really fast, or they starved. ;)

As a child, just the smell of real butter would make me sick. Now I won't use anything but the real thing.

oooh- sweet potato. Swoon. Only discovered it as an adult but I'm in love. Tagliatelle with chicken, garlic, white wine, cream, leeks and roasted cubes of sweet potato.

Or... sweet potato oven chips with pretty much anything.

I eat less now than I did as a child. My diet sucks.

Peer pressure only ever worked on me twice, and I can't remember the one time.

Grilled sweet potatoe with cinnimon...par-boil the sweet potatoes, slice in to 1/2 inch slabs, sprinkle sugar and cinnimon on both side, place on a hot grill.

Turn once after about five minutes, grill until tender. Mmmmm.

I actually can only think of the reverse -food I won't eat now that I loved as a kid.

tomato sauce (Ketchup) urrgh

Custard (blegh)

and this is a drink (I know you know that,I just don't want to look daft*L*)

Tea (ewwwww!) which i drank as a baby apparently.

Same as impressive....real butter. I couldn't stand it, but now I love slathering it all over a steak.

I quoted this because it fits for me, even the okra :) . I'd only add liver and entrails, otherwise I eat just about anything I find in North American or Europe (the only two continents I've been on).

p.s. When young I also could not stand coffee or wine (I mean into my early 20's).

Sorry. I misread the thread title. I thought it said "Who do you like to eat"

I thought a long last the AH had a cannible thread :D

8 kids in my family, although by the time my little bro and I came along came along it was down to 6 plus assorted foster children....I think the reason I am the shortest and thinnest in my family is because if I didn't want to eat I just didn't....too many others to give the food to....I really don't eat that much even today...

BUT what I love now is broccoli...can't get enough of it.....

same with fried okra (one of the few fried foods I eat).....

and onions.......evertything has to have onions on it today...

Oh, yeah....eggplant.....yum....

Meatloaf and yams.

Though I make my meatloaf different than my mom... and the yams have butter and cinammon and brown sugar.

Me too!!

I was a child of rationing after the end of WWII, and butter was scarce, so I was brought up on margerine, and that was all I would/could eat, even after rationing was over and butter was freely available.......expensive,but available.

I also couldn't stomach cream. The thought of it......:( I think it was just that my system just wasn't used to the richness of butter and cream......but now......I love them both......unfortunately. And I even eat yoghurt, which I didn't a few years ago.

My general problem, is that I just like to eat all the wrong things.

*sigh*

I wouldn't eat veggies and fish when I was young.

Now they predominate in my diet. Also chicken.

Beef is full of steroids.

And don't get me started on veal.

Or diet sweeteners.

The things I didn't like as a child, I realize now I didn't like them because my mom didn't cook them very well. She was/is a vegetarian and couldn't (still can't) cook a steak to save her life. She also didn't cook fish, so I didn't start liking it till my 20's. But we ate a lot more vegetables and beans than most families, no Hamburger Helper or fast food, no soda, no sugar-filled cereals. There was no special kid's food. We got served what the adults were having and if we didn't like it, there wasn't anything else. The only thing I won't eat is asparagus.

Only thing I can think of is broccoli and red meat.

LOLOL

Growing up we ate what was put in front of us, or we didn't eat.

What wouldn't I eat as a kid that I eat now? I honestly don't know. What did I eat as a kid and won't touch now. A couple of things come readily to mind. (I didn't like them then and won't eat them unless I have to now.)

Cat

I'll eat pretty much anything.....the foods I don't eat now I didn't eat as a kid, and vice versa. The one probable exception is fish, which I avoid now at cost, but loved as a kid.

Parmesan cheese.
Though I expect that the parmesan cheese I buy in whole pieces now is vastly superior to the nasty grated stuff I remember from my childhood.

When I was a kid, I remember loving buttermilk. Can't stand the sight of the damn thing now. Basically, I've gone off drinking milk altogether.
