Okay now is the time to dust off your thoughts, assumptions and grudges and post to your hearts content. Ask your questions, air your predjudices or sprinkle us with your observations. I'll start.

Aussies- so far my experience is they a) like beer b) have a fondness for crocks(hey it's on the nature channel) c) are
mucho macho

Scots - a) have a dark sense of humor b) great butts c) great tolerance of absurd and silly behavior d) incredible
facial expressions e) are very honest

Englishpersons- a) like spankings b) understate most things c) consider sneering an olympic sport d) have stupid ways of
saying good bye ( toodlepip) I mean come onnnnnn.

NEXT UP!!

I wouldn't mention it normally...

but you might have created some trouble for yourself putting Aussies on that list...

Toodle Pip Old Boy....

Not quite how I imagine Nicole.

p.p. man come on now it is just in fun. Just think of it as a good nuggy to give folks a bit of respite.

Welsh: Nice people. Very aggressive sheep.

Scottish: I almost married a Scotsman once. If I had it all to do over again, I'd have gone for it. In a heartbeat. I loved Scotland, despite smokies and haggis.

English: I really enjoyed my time in England. Jaffa Cakes. Whatever our differences, whatever our conflicts and grudges, I can't feel bad about people who gave Jaffa Cakes to the world. Which ties in strangely to my phobia of Welsh sheep.

Good times.

My only real problem with England was this cola they had there, whose name I can't remember. It had the same color and flavor of children's aspirin. Scary stuff.

It's a little round piece of shortbread with the top half dipped in chocolate over (and this is, I believe, a technical term) 'smashing orange bit'. Which, to this Yank, seemed like a bit of gelled orange stuff. Jaffa oranges, no doubt.

They're highly addictive.

Ahh... thank you for clearing that up. I had images of those little things that are rumored to be made of blood. Ewww... Btw, for the people over there... what ARE blood cakes? What are the made of...?

I know about "black pudding" which is I think oatmeal and blood mixed together and cooked (makes gagging gesture).

Once you've started on a pack of jaffa cakes, that's it, tutto finito.
When I was 10, we used to play blackjack for who had the honour of stealing a packet from the corner shop. (Shit, I wish I hadn't said that!)

Black pudding is a Lancastrian delicacy and is made from dried pig's blood. I used to eat it all the time. Delicious hot with mashed potatos and mushy peas. My mouth is watering with the memory of it. Of course, these soft southerners in London can't bear it, so I haven't had it in years. :(

Nice one p_p_man. Good stuff.:) :)

I'm a bit of a soft Northerner, I guess. I've never liked Black Pudding or Haggis. Even before I knew how they were made. Mind you - I'd eat a whole black pudding and haggis banquet if it meant I could avoid the Head Cheese course (ask the Americans).

I've never heard of Blood Cakes. Also, I've seen on a few programmes like Buffy that Blood Sausage is attributed to the Brits but I'd never heard of it till Gingersnap the Lazergirl enlightened me. Seemingly it's Polish. We do like the occasional cup of tea, though, and us Scotties are fond of our oatcakes.

|Maybe I was kidnapped by gypsy Southerners...

when I was a child because I drool over haggis as well...

Ah well. Hoots mon it's a braw bricht moonlit nicht tonicht....

is that OK for starters?

:)

The regional foods.
Scotch eggs.
Lancashire hotpot.
Yorkshire pudding
Toad in the hole
Cornish pasties
Shepherds pie. Avoid the ones made from reconstituted shepherd
As far as the blood sausages go, the saying is "Every part of a pig is usable, apart from the squeal."

I like oatcakes too. They are great with cheese or tuna salad. I canna get next to the haggies. I do not eat innards in any shape.

What about good old "Cheddar Cheese " and a flagon of scrumpy cider !!!..ummmmmmmmm.......

Do you Americans know what Scrumpy cider is ????......
