Bluesy is going to teach me how finger a song on the guitar. Naded has promised to teach me about shooting a gun. Binkley is going to teach me a special way of roasting a duck.

What special knowledge do you have to share?

Thank you! Maybe we could start with "simple" landscapes. I saw some absolutely gorgeous scenery this weekend in the Texas hill country. It would be nice to capture it in paint.

Hello to you Sweetness! I've never made soap before. Is it hard to do? When I was little I watched my grandmother make lye soap. That stuff was NASTY!

WRONG!

Ignorance is bliss.

You know much about the French! One never knows when that knowledge will be essential to survival ...... or escape.

It is my opinion that we all have something special to share. Some may have to dig a little farther to find it, but it's THERE!

I have a very hard time finding lotion & soap in the scent I favor. If I could make my own, I wouldn't have to hunt all over creation for it!

You are so nice!:)

No, though I could teach you how to make lye soaps, I do not make them myself because it is a time consuming drawn out process, and is a bit dangerous for me, as I am umm....high maintenance when it comes to danger and common sense.
I make glycerin soaps that are all natural, I use as many of my own herbs and flowers as i can get my hands own, and they are very easy to make....I posted instructions and recipes in lavenders 'beautification' thread. :)
I also sell these soaps and other bath products I make in consignment shops.

I like to learn more about a few of those things.

I recently learned how to lay cement block, does that tempt you?

Maybe. What could I do with it? Build a patio, perhaps?

I'm curious

I have a very hard time finding lotion & soap in the scent I favor. If I could make my own, I wouldn't have to hunt all over creation for it!

I have over 70 different scented oils. If you'd like the web addy of the place I get the oils fromn, I can pm you with it. They hace wonderful decriptions of the scents that they carry. They also sell unscented lotion in bulk.....you just add the oils to it.

If you want an overview on how to make cold process (lye) soap, and the melt & pour (glycerine)....go to www.soapteacher.com. They give step by step instructions with pictures. It's easy....I started out doing it for myself and to give away as gifts....now I have people buying it from me.

The only thing I know anything about is cooking. lol

For Someplace, by request:

Cream Gravy:

2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons flour
1-2 cups milk
salt
black pepper

Melt the butter in a saucepan. Add the flour and whisk for 3-5 minutes over a medium heat. Do not allow the mixture to darken past light tan.

Add 1 cup of the milk slowly, whisking constantly. Bring mixture to boil. If it's too thick, add more milk. Add salt and black pepper to taste.

White sauce: same as above only use light chicken stock in place of milk. Make sure the stock is not hot (room temp or slightly cooler).

Brown gravy:

Same as above, only brown the butter/flour slightly, whisking CONSTANTLY and substitute a good quality beef stock for the milk.

To avoid pasty, lumpy gravy always make sure that the liquid you add to the butter/flour is room temperature or cooler.
