What do you keep by the bed?

Oh yeah, by the bed. Two Chinese 'ukes in odd tunings; USA-made 12-string guitar and double ocarina; boomy Soviet mandolin in blues tuning; Irish tinwhistles; German and Japanese harmonicas. Walls above the encompassing bookshelves are filled with Escher prints and tribal masks for the correct ambiance. The opaque window curtain is a fat quiltwork of Mayan huipiles. That's a tarantula's shed coat on the shelf.

I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this, but I keep my Amazon Alexa on a table next to the bed.

If I have any random ideas for stories or dialogue, I use the reminder function to repeat them back to me the next day.

In my younger days., I had a friend (of Australian ancestry) who had a small fridge beside his bed. He hated the idea of waking up in the night to warm beer. :)

I finally got a hard copy of Sycamore Row. I'll have to put it close to the bed for now. Some place safe so the kitty and my chihuahua warrior can't get their paws on it.
