The "what do you consider your weak spot(s)?" - thread is focusing on people's peoblems. In order to balance it off, I propose this thread, where I want to know what each and every one of you think is your strongest spot(s) when it comes to writing in general and writing erotica in particular.

My strongest spots are, I think,

  • my beautiful language
  • my poetic, run-on sentences, that although they would sound rather confusing and tedious when read out loud, create very nice images when read quietly to one self
    and,
  • my sense of realism in the stories

OK, come on - do what you Americans do best: BRAG!!! ;) :p

I have a great sense of balance. There is nothing you can't write about, as long as you know how to balance it with voice.

My writing has strong character AND plot.

People tell me they see themselves in my characters.

I get paid for it.

:D

Hi svenska

Strong point for me, 55 yr old and very twisted mind, that's about it, the rest is weak, hehe.

I can only claim the first two of those, but I suppose two out of three isn't bad.

P.S. You were up early this morning, my Lord?

I've been told my usage of consecutive polysyllabic vocables in complex phrasal structures is quite braggable.

That's: "I don't take no shit from nobody!"

Actually, in my case, it's description. My favorite thing is trying to place a reader in the same place I am.

Thanks Flicka for this thread

The strengths AND weaknesses of my writing lie in attention to detail. I tend to use a telescopic lens when writing short stories and have been told that the level of detail makes some readers feel as though they are part of the fiction.

I'm glad to see that people are responding to this thread. We criticize ourselves way too much, we need to be nicer to ourselves and give ourselves the credit we deserve.

They say that you learn from your mistakes, but remember, you learn from your success, too.

I'm in the WW-program, and I'm trying to get rid of a lot of excess kilos, and the thing that keeps me going back every week, even after "failing" once in a while, is the memory of the summer of 2000, when I had been a WW for 1 year, lost 25 kilos, and was slim, agile, strong, curvy, and so full of energy I could beat a high junkie in a marathon race.

If I could to it once, I can do it again!

...which is also my motto for this year's Survivor Contest... :p

25 KILOS?!?!? (pulling out calculator)

That's 55 pounds!

Let me hijack the thread to congratulate you on that success, Flicka!

I agree that we should celebrate the good things we do. It's so easy to hear negative messages over and over in our heads. Better to build new positive messages and rely on them. My friend taught me to think, "What can I do right now to make things better?" when things seemed to be going wrong. Before, I used to say, "Stupid Mia! Dumb dumb Mia! Look at what you've done! You'll never learn! You should just forget about trying for anything. LOSER!"

And while I was berating myself, precious time was passing...

I wish you the best in your WW effort.

Plot, believable characters and attention to detail. Also most people think I'm a man, which is suppose is a strength since I generally write from the male pov.

My strengths?

My strengths are in the command of grammar what I write, my speling, and in my careful proof reading to ensure no are left out.

And you will never find me using a preposition to end a sentence with.

Generally, I'm just really fucked up, and no longer afraid of writing whatever the hell I feel like without giving a damn what anyone really thinks of it. Oddly, thats where I get my best feedback.

Sometimes I scare myself with I read things later tho...

My main strengths would have to be:

1. I never lack for ideas for stories.
2. I'm incredibly prolific.
3. I'm lucky enough to have a job that gives me ample time to write.
4. I do good smut ;)

I think my strength is my passion. My passion for writing and my passion for the story i write.

I might not be good at the technical stuff but i do know i tell a good tale, my descriptive skills are great!

Having several writings sitting on my hard drive, I find my strength lies within real-life experiences, though many are expanded and filled with romanticism. In many articles and references I've read to hone one's skills, the general consensus is to write what you know.

I know my life experiences best and start there. I've had others approach me with their expereinces and have blended some in with my own. Its a challenge at times, but worth it.
