I am wondering what women enjoy the most about when reading a story.

For example, is detail important? Or foreplay? Or being told what to do? Or making "love" instead?

I'm going to go ahead and guess that they all want different things, that what they want changes from moment to moment, and that there is no sure formula for pleasing any one of them, never mind all of them. If you are considering writing to try to attract women, I would write about your fantasies. That way, at least you will be attracting women who get turned on by the things that turn you on. I should also say something about how you shouldn't use literature, which is sacred, to try to get laid, but I'd only really be saying that to impress chicks.

Instead of what? lol

If you want to know what women want in erotic stories, you should read erotica (or erotic romance) written by women for women. Not only does any given book store have a huge section of romance novels, most of which have sex scenes, there are also craptons of steamy fanfiction floating around on the internet, and most of both of these types of fiction are written by women for women.

If you want to know what women want reading erotica is a good place to start but even that's misleading. I started writing erotica because what was out there was so disappointing to me.

Every woman is different but there are a few things in common. Good characters, strong dialog, a decent but simple plot, and characters that actually seem to think with some degree of empathy towards one another are always safe bets, however.

If you need just one single common theme, make sure your story's men aren't walking cocks. Anyone reads something erotic because they enjoy it more than reality, and guess what very negative stereotype men have in the real world?

The rest of it is fairly specific to each woman, though madam noe's got a good idea of other traits to keep in mind.

I love a story where I don't have to wait for the sex. I love a lot.

Going by what I see at lunch during my work day, women apparently enjoy novels with well coiffed pirates and women with generous displays of cleavage on the covers. These novels must be compelling as they sit by themselves and read with their one of their hands resting at the base of their throats.

Romance novels are compelling, they provide a lot of things a lot of women want. They provide idealized portrayals of men as women wish they thought and acted, rather than as they actually do. Romance novels provide the promise that there someone for everyone and a happy ending waiting for all good people. (Almost sounds like a religion, lol.) Romance novels also talk about issues and problems a lot of women find interesting: ethics, persuasion, struggles within a relationship, struggles to protect a newborn relationship from a hostile outside world, the female drive to select the right mate and associated fears of making the wrong choice, mistakenly thinking a man loves you when he doesn't, being trapped in a bad relationship or abandoned, problems with not being accepted by the man's friends and family or vice-versa him not being accepted by her friends and family, hopes and fears about pregnancy, hopes and fears about money...

david, i would suggest writing stories that you are satisfied writing, rather than trying to jump-start the creative process in this fashion. ultimately, my best writing happens when i write for me. i'm willing to bet that's true for you, too.

bingo! there is no formula....varies on mood...and each of us enjoy/want/need different things....

one has to write to please him/her self and not worry about others, and I'm sure you will find a "fan" base

Every women wants a 10+ inch cock in her erotica, just as they want it in their pussy, ass, and throat. Any woman who tells you different is just trying to soothe your wounded pride

.

funny, but you get :caning: for being naughty

truth be told, size only matters (for the most part) in a one night stand...unless a guy is 4 inches...or so...grrrr

and just about every woman that I know would jump out of bed if a guy was hanging 10 ;)

It's very nice of you to say that Lindasay. I'm sure it will make many men more comfortable with their delusion of adequacy.

In general, when talking about cocks, you've finally stated one thing correctly. Delusions. Sadly, many men feel they are inadequate. However, I cannot deepthroat a 6" cock, let alone anything larger than that. And if anything, where size may matter (to me at least), it would be in girth and not length. After so many inches, the rest of the man is sticking out of me no matter if he's 7", 8", or 12".

what woman wants in a story

Majority of them wants a story that really happened and getting aroused, if they could really relate to the story written by the author. Women becomes hot and turned on through their sense of seeing and hearing. but, this one is a sure thing though, nobody could guess what they really want! And I mean n ot just the story reading, but in all things that matters, because it is written; " You will never know the ways of a woman"

I'm glad LindsayRae is here to keep you guys in check. Double everything she said, please.

Speaking for myself, though, I actuially do like the idea of being dominated - and I even like the idea of being dominated by a jerk - but the story has to be realistic, slow, and measured.

Ideas are sexy.

Descriptions of big dicks aren't.

Interesting thread and by the way i'm 6"5 and it's enought for lot of woman. I'll try to take your advice in account ladies.

I look for likable characters first and foremost in a good story. Most women I know (myself included) don't like stupid, blonde bimbos with huge tits in real life. Real women will not like reading about them either. I'm not saying you should write about a morbidly obese women as though she's the hottest thing ever, just make your fictional fuck realistic. The male character should be strong and have a gentle control of the sexual encounter. He should also say what he is thinking. Though his words he should show how this women is making him weak. The sex words you use should be sexy (cock, pussy, tits, ass, breats). Words like bunghole, funbags, fuckhole, and jugs should be avoided at all costs! Make your fictional sex very clear. Make sure the reader knows what is going on...instead of saying "he tasted her essence" say "he flicked her clit with the tip of his tongue". Lastly, write from a man's perspective. Write about what make sex great for you. Even if it's nasty. For the most part, women love men for being men and love reading a man's thoughts.

I agree pink, we (men) also enjoy to read what you have in mind. I like to write stories with other female author.

Thanks for your advice.
