Basques and corsets? Apart from the fact that I've just got J-L's attention.

I'm currently writing a story for a friend and a basque/corset has been requested. I've no experience with either and am not really their hugest fans. They look nice enough and wouldn't turn down the opportunity to see one being worn on a pretty lady, but I'm not burning up with the thought of them.

I need that to change. I need to know what they're like, why you'd wear one, why men like them, what's the attraction, what makes a good one, what makes it sexy, what is it about them that makes you want to rip them off and have wild monkey sex?

Illustrations and prose very welcome, especially on the describing how you wear them and what they're like. My character needs to be burning for his g/f in this outfit and I need to know why.

corsets
lovely well made corsets would hardly be ripped off as they are pretty strong things.
custom made corsets hug the form and curve it, making it more lush, accentuation the breasts and hips whilst nipping in the waist
...
if you were to *tear* one off.. i would say something sharp like a knife to cut the strings (unless ofcourse its a metal clasp)

They make you feel all girlishly pretty and womanly sexy at the same time by accentuating your curves with a special focus on your breasts. You tend to be very consciuos of your breasts whilst wearing one of those, as is everyone else. And then there's the breathing thing - if it's tight enough, you have to take more frequent, shallower breaths which mimic your breathing during sexual arousal. Plus, even the shallowest of breaths lifts your breasts, threatening to overflow their confinement at any moment. Finally, the power of suggestion works on your mind - you can't help thinking about sex because the corset accentuates all your (visible) sexy bits, and you know everyone else is thinking about them too.

in ancient times ... corsets were made to accentuate a woman's hourglass figure ... and create a tiny waist, while pushing the breasts up and together .... all this to make her more appealing to potential suitors.... now a days, corsets do the same thing, and have a real appeal to the BDSM lovers in the crowd ... as some women love the feeling of tight-ness and being confined

Most corsets (if made of cloth) could be cut off, as Vella said, but they're so tight to the skin you'd run the risk of cutting the skin it hides.

An insanely strong guy could probably grab both sides and strip the seams, but not all the way because they are sewed in such a way that that can't happen completely.....some of the pics I've seen with women being put into them involve other women tightening the laces by standing on their back or by putting a boot to the corset wearer's spine and pulling as hard as they can.

Leather corsets.....ah sweet leather....are not going to be able to be torn off. The stitching is generally sinue (if the corset is well made) and there's no way to rip that without lots of mechanical advantage.

Corsets had whale bone spines put in them to help them retain shape...and to keep from completely crushing the wearer. Most of them had laces so they'd be concealable under clothing, but more modern corsets....those not intended for wearing under clothing....may have straps, and even good strong zippers to hold them together.

Have to ask the women about wearing them....not really into that.....

I read Bruce's thread and nearly corrected him, but I have to remember my idea of ancient and most people's is different.....

Corsets saw popular rise during the courts of the late feudal ages, and as they progressed into the Renassaince and the Age of Discovery and Victorian times, the corsets became tighter and tighter, squeezing the women smaller and smaller. The smallest corseted waiste I've ever heard of was 9 inches around. Keep in mind most guys over 6 foot tall probably have at least a 7 inch wrist. 9 inches is smaller than most modern women's spines.

But that case is extreme. The corset was designed to accentuate feminity from masculinity; big bosom, tiny waist, flaring hips.

It's not so much corsets - it needs to be leaning more towards the Basque side. Good stuff so far - anyone know anything about Basques?

Thank God MathGirl isn't here. She'd be first up mentioning something about Spain.

dunno if this is offbase .. but a basque seems like a corset, without the boning ... so not as tight, not meant to cinch in the waist ??

Earl, I just hit some websites and it looks like they're modified corsets made ideally for the taking off and displaying, as opposed to the corset which is meant for body modification. I could be wrong, someone correct me if I am.

Basques look like they lace up the front and are made of less stout stuff than a traditional corset. I may also be wrong about that as well.

Sorry man...not my area, but that's what I got.

Since Darkness just struck out on the web, I checked the old-fashioned way, in a print dictionary.

According to it, a basque is a corset that covers the area from the breasts to the top of the thighs.

Come on, there must be more?

No doubt. And you're more than welcome, Earl. No need to say thanks to the folks who have been doing your research.

(no knowledge of corsets, dated a Basque bloke once.)

That made me grin. :D

I love wearing basques and corsets. Wore a new one for the first time yesterday, in fact!

They make me feel sexy in a feminine way - but not girly; womanly, most definitely. They define the figure and make me hold myself in a very confident posture. It's all about mind-set, particularly when I wear my black basque, with the silver chain running from a silver zip detail across my left nipple, to the silver zip up the back of it. I almost become a different woman when I'm wearing that. ;) (Think "Domme")

It's also the fact they are strapless. There's something incredibly horny about having a bare neck and shoulders.

So, yep, they get my vote!

Lou

(1) The best way to learn is to wear one. And don't forget to post a pic, okay?

(2) They look fabulous, but it's almost impossible to put one on without assistance. To surprise your date, it may be necessary to settle for one that laces up the front.

(3) If it's an exceptional date, your fingers will be shaking while you dress, which adds to the difficulty.

It's enough to make one long for the days when everyone had a ladies' maid or a valet. (This assumes that we wouldn't have been maids or valets.)

On wearing:

They leave marks on your skin. Little red places, tiny indentions where they were binding your breasts, your ribs. And when the corset (or basque) comes off, those little marks, shadow tattoos, almost itch. You can even feel them if you rub your hands across your skin, and my lover will always worry those places with his fingers. That is such a pleasure for me because I'm so sensitized. The removing of the bindings, the corset, is a release of sorts, and at that point my skin feels like it its pressing out from my body, reaching for his hands.

Posture, I have excellent posture in a corset. It's a strangely regal and like others have said, very womanly, feeling. If you are like me (not very well endowed) the boning creates the illusion of cleavage. I love the look and feel of the puffy little mounds of my breasts pushed up. The skin is very tight and smooth but giving at the same time. I feel…bountiful and I keep brushing that taunt skin with my fingers, unable not to touch myself.

A corset reshapes me, not a great deal, but enough that my mannerisms change a bit, I move differently, I feel different…just a little like I've slipped temporarily into someone else's more bodacious skin. ;)

Luck to all,

Yui
