I've submitted three stories. Two are real life (but tame), the third is fiction and a little hotter than the others.

Still......I seem to have fallen short of what the readers seek.

Does it all have to be over-the-top sex all the time?

Feel free to email me directly at ausnackt@yahoo.com if you have a long response. Otherwise I shall look for it here.

First off, you need to remove the e-mail from your post its a forum no-no. You can put it in your profile if you'd like, but not in a post.

as for your success or lack of, there is a market for all types of stories here and as a new author your audience may not have "found" you yet.

Just keep writing and you'll find your stride and they'll find you.

Three stories in Loving Wives. I believe I've discovered the problem.

The LW readers are rather unbalanced. I would not seek to change anything based upon their commentary. Looking at the comments on your stories, you actually got off pretty light. They can be FAR worse than that.

The newest story has 3 favorites. 187,150,300 something on votes. Averaging about 25k views.

Really, considering how short your stories are, those are pretty respectable numbers for a brand new author. The scores are probably only in the 3s because it's Loving Wives.

Briefly scanning your stories, I'd say you have them properly categorized, though. Fortunately, your leading man ( you, I assume ) isn't coming off as a cuckold, which is what will get you real hatred from the readers.

Really, it's all a matter of what you want out of writing. Are you concerned about score? Comments? People reading you? Just sharing your experiences?

Don't get too down on yourself, because you have a pretty good start -- especially when your opening dive was into the shark pit that is Loving Wives.

Dark is quite right. If you jump in the LW pool, you're going to get splashed, to say the least, and the splash back isn't always pleasant. However, it sounds like you're doing well for the category.

LC is also right in that Lit gets tons of readers who want all different things. It'd be impossible to cater to all of them. It may take time, but people will eventually find you and your stories.

It certainly doesn't have to be all-sex-all-the-time. In romance especially, you can have minimal sex and it probably won't affect your score. Writers like woodmanone and DGHear are very popular over there, and do soft sex if they do any. In romance and nonhuman, as well as sf/fantasy, you can get away with longer stories that have chapters with no sex at all. But all of these, as you can see, depends a lot on the category. A BDSM story, even a multi-chapter one, will go over better with more sex, for example.

But figure out why you're writing, as Dark recommended. I usually advise people not to live and die by their scores or feedback, or lack thereof. This is just one place to post stories, and few vote and even fewer comment. So you have to make your own way.

I like reading and writing lots of different fetishy stories in fantasy. I am from England and tend to use English sounding words like Mummy and knickers and things that I associate with naughtiness.

Will this put off American Readers?

Thanks to a lot of great [and not so great] Brit and UK TV shows and series that have wended their way over the pond ever since PBS started Masterpiece Theater decades ago, most of us in the former colonies speak and read Brit English sufficiently to catch a Brit writer's drift.

[Sometimes we're a little weak on reading and understanding American English. I've often longed to hear a Maine Downeaster talking with a hard core Texan, and wondered if either of them would understand the other.]

Some of them, yes. And more of them if someone British doesn't think you use them correctly--or enough of them if you choose to use any. (I recently had a story raked over the coals for that). But if you enjoy using then, what the hey, go ahead. The first one you want to enjoy your stories is yourself.

I write in Australian English, and I've not had any complaints so far. I will very occasionally clarify Australian terms if they're likely to cause confusion - in particular "wog" has different connotations here than it does in Britain, and I doubt many non-Aussie readers would know what "Skip Easter" meant - but for the most part, it doesn't seem to bother US readers.

Speaking for myself, I find it interesting to read stories written in different idioms of English.
