What do the cool kids call female masturbation these days?

I'm writing a story where female masturbation is a fairly strong element. Problem is I am kind of running out of euphemisms for it.

What word/phrase do young women use when talking to each other about 'the act'? The word 'masturbation' itself works fairly well, although it's a little bit too clinical for some situations. Men use 'jerking off' and 'wanking' (in the UK) and these are nice concise phrases to use in a story in dialogue between characters (or internal monologue of a character). What are the equivelant for women? Every other phrase for it I have heard sounds a little bit 'trying to hard' if you know I mean.

I've never used it myself, but I've seen it described as "fapping." Also saw things like "jilled off."

I usually just call it masturbating.

But sometimes I say jerking off as a joke. I have nothing to jerk, but people understand the point.

I've seen and heard it called:

Jerking off, fapping, wanking, spanking the kitty, rubbing one off, petting the kitten, rubbing pussy, playing with yourself, and numerous other things. And of course, it's fine to call it "masturbation," too.

Though, I'm not sure I would call any of those things "cool."

Personally, I don't see a need for a special word for female masturbation. The cutesy terms that emphasize the femaleness of it, especially jilling off, totally put me off.

I say wanking, mostly. Fapping's fine too.

Dunno about the cool kids. :)

Mistressbation?

Or would that be something entirely different?

I go the other way on this. Emphasizing the femaleness of it is makes it sexier to me (maybe just because I'm attracted to females).

I don't know about "these days," but back when I was a cool kid, fingering a woman was sometimes referred to as "petting her poodle."

But cast me as another vote for "jilling off." I like that term. :)

The thought strikes me that you don't actually want a cool, modern word for it.
The grown-ups you write about learned their words a decade or so ago.
Just a passing thought

Well the characters in this story are in the 20-25 age bracket, so you're right they almost certainly learned their vernacular a decade ago or more. Then again, they would still have more cool terms than me because:

a) I'm 10 years older than that again and
b) I'm a guy and I never really knew what words girls used even when I was young.

Of course I am aware of a lot of the flowery terms like 'petting the poodle' and 'double-clicking the mouse', but as I said these have always seemed a bit trying too hard. I can't imagine girls actually using these phrases too often in casual conversation (let alone their inner monologue) any more than guys go around using phrases like 'siphoning the python' and 'going to visit Mrs Palm' unless they are deliberately trying to garner amusement from their choice of vocabulary. But on the other hand... masturbation? Do girls use that phrase much in casual conversation? I know guys that age don't.

I wasn't sure about the male-ported phrases such as jerking off and wanking, whether they were used seriously or just as a sort of parody, that's one of the reasons I started this thread. Jilling was one I was vaguely aware of but never knew it was so popular. It might serve quite well, It's punchy and uniquely female (AFAIK).

Engaging in solo play, enjoying some me time, fingering myself.
I've never been inclined to say masturbate to myself or someone else. Guys have a wank, gals finger themselves.
That's probably not particularly modern, or common.

This is the first time I have used tghe message thing so I am not sure if I am doing tghis correctly.
Women dont really like the word masturbation as it sounds a man expression.
My friends and I like to talk about squishing and things like that.

You know, the great thing about these younger generations is that they continually make up new expressions. If this is a close knit group of women, they might have their own unique expression for masturbation that only they know.

Coin a new phrase and have fun with it.

A young friend of mine refers to it as playing a clit solo.

She's a music major so that might have something to do with it.

My wife calls it "buzzing off." But she is much older than your characters, and tends to prefer the assistance of a battery-powered device.

I think that's the best term for it that I've seen so far.

Squishing, sounds like a soft drink, all the females I know and they are young and mature call it masturbation, its not a man thing. Man thing is wanking
