Most of us in the good 'ol U.S. of A. received a check for the government as part of the Economic Stimulus Payment Program. The powers-that-be wanted us to go out and purchase things to get a flow of $$$$ going to push economic growth.

I received my check this Saturday. I used it to pay the portion of my colonoscopy  not covered by my insurance. Really.

Yes I did - I used that $$$$ to put something up my ass, and given that I was under a general anesthetic I was not the least bit stimulated

What did you do with your stimulus check?

I used mine to have the trim in my den done by a professional (wasn't in the mood to deal with it) and have some water damage repaired.

My original plan was to buy some railroad stock but then reason won out over fantasy. :(

I owed from 2006 so they sent me a letter saying they found a use for it.

Gooooooo missappropriation of gov't funds! $2,000 toilet seat? Sure...:D

I bought a new bed (wrought iron, wonderful for bondage) and mattress, paid all but $600 of it, waited for my check....got a letter saying they took it for some reason, which my ex-husband got as the check was going to his address due to the recent divorce. He didn't READ the letter, just skimmed it and tossed it. So I'm not really sure WHY I didn't get the money, but I'm thinking maybe it went to student loans. Not sure.

I was very pissed. Had to borrow money to pay for the rest of my bed. Some stimulus.

Unfortunately I can't blame Ex as I'm just as bad about reading my mail as he is and I probably would have skimmed and tossed it too

I used mine to pay for half of my Dublin trip. If they give you a stimulus payment for working for the government overseas, they can't really expect me to use it within the U.S. economic system....

Put it in the bank. Some to be saved. Some to pay some bills. It's been a bit rough financially for me lately.

*sigh*

:rose:

I sent it straight to my credit card company unfortunately..

I probably should have been smarter with mine, got it months ago and used it (along with a little OT) to buy a laptop since I didn't have a computer at home at all. I should have put it in the bank or used it for baby stuff but like I said I got mine pretty early and I was still sort of living in denial at the time.

Mine went to towards my final payment for school, before I knew I was going to be getting another small student loan.

Now that student loan payment will be going to the credit card company, wee.

Dental surgery, a painting for my bedroom, an exercise bike, and part of a plane ticket.

We got $1,800 and every penny of it went to bills.

I can't see how a stimulus check could change the amount of the refund on your 2008 tax return (if you get one.) According to the IRS website it doesn't. I think the only way you can advance an expected refund is if you are eligible for the Earned Income Credit.

well well well people - no wonder the U.S. of A's housing market is in the crapper - not a single one of us went out and purchased a new home with that free money from Uncle Sam!!!!

shame
shame
shame
