Agreed. Tough catagory, for me at least. My lowest rated story is in that cat.

As for what cat's I haven't written in, most of them. I've only submitted in MC, Lez and EH.

I have 2 in the works now that will probablly end up in Sci-Fi, although one may end up in novellas depending on how long it gets. I also have a few vauge ideas of stories that will most likely end up in Toys.

THat's about as far as my writing takes me.

I never intend to write in a category. I write the story first and decide on the cat after.

That said, I'll probably never do Gay Male. I'm too straight to imagine that, and I don't believe there's anything really different about the emotions of a gay relationship.

Probably won't do Loving Wives. Anything I write will almost certainly fit better in another cat.

Erotic Horror is unlikely. Can't mix the two in my mind somehow.

There almost needs to be TWO separate Loving Wives categories, of course.

I wrote a Loving Wives story 'Energy Saving' about a happy married couple trying to save energy together for Earth Day.

Very few were happy with it.

My other Loving Wives story 'Trapped' just involved the husband and wife, and should have been in Fetish, so no one was pleased with it.

Categories I haven't done and would like to?

I checked. I was surprised to find that there were apparently 15 categories I haven't written for. Some of them - I have - as part of Novels/Novellas. Those chapters cover First Time, Group Sex, Lesbian, Letters and Transcripts, Non-consent and reluctance, Toys and Masturbation and Transsexuals and Crossdressers.

That leaves:

Anal: I don't see the point of that as a category
BDSM: Not my thing
Celebrities: Maybe
Gay Male: Not my thing
How To: Will try that in a later competition
Interracial: I don't see the point of that as a category. It isn't a taboo or particularly unusual where I live.
Non-English: I suppose I could write in French
Text with Audio: Don't have the technical equipment

So - Celebrities and How To are possible, as is Non-English. However I'm not inspired by any of the three. (Unless I invent my own language for Non-English. That could be interesting...)

I've never written for Text With Audio, because I can't record my stories - my mike is broken - and I've never written for BDSM. I just can't find anything arousing about it. I have this idea, right or wrong, that BDSM is about roleplaying as un-equal partners, and about being forced to submit and not be able to reciprocate; and my biggest turn-ons all time is equality and reciprocation.
Writing about something that doesn't turn me on is tricky for me. I've managed to surprise myself by writing two lesbian stories, but even though people tell me they're good, I don't feel the same pride about them as my other stories, because I wrote them only to fill the Survivor quota.

Actually, it's fewer than I thought. Last year for survivor I broke a couple of my own barriers and posted in some cats I hadn't yet tackled. I feel most stuck on erotic horror, humour and crossdressers i think. plus, it's really hard to write an EC becuase you start out aiming for that and it turns into something else, lol.

I agree with what rgraham666 said earlier about not writing to categories; the story comes first, the pigeonhole afterward. I understand the reason for having to categorize stories, but that doesn't mean I like it in general; most good stories span categories. I'm surprised that Lit doesn't explicitly support a checklist model for authors (i.e., you categorize your work by checking off all the categories that apply from a list).

That said, I'm taking aim at humor next. Well, sort of. I probably will have as much trouble figuring out what category the next story belongs to as I do thinking up those key search phrases, or whatever they're called. Oh, my palms are already sweaty just thinking about that task!

I've noticed they have a keyword function in beta, which I think would be better than the current catagory system. I don't write with a catagory in mind. I have a story and I try to figure out which pigeonhole is the BEST fit.
