Some people drink coffee, some drink whiskey.

For me vaping cannabis and taking amphetamines gets me right in the zone to write- it's my writing regimen.

I'll add in some booze and benzos, but it's mostly all about the stimulation and stoning-
Turns me into Hemingway!

What food/drink/drug helps you write????

For me it's mostly the need to get a story out of my head so the storylines up there don't get too crowded. I don't do drugs--other than light-to-moderate alcohol in the form of wine. (If we don't count a slew of prescribed drugs.)

Martinis do it for me. Really gets the writing juices flowing.

For editing, not so much! That's best done stone cold sober.

My mind incessantly sees stories, be they fictional or non. Sometimes I do like to sit back and reflect, though, with a tumbler of Redbreast or the like (I have a gift - thank you, D. - of a single-malt Welsh whisky that I'm holding for the right time of contemplation). It's mostly a cuppa joe when I'm actually writing, however.

I did know a few "authors" in my youth who were convinced a ride on the "A" train turned them into more than Papa H; their works, though, were scarcely better than Jack's in "The Shining."

So you smoke pot which slows you down then pills to speed you up? I wouldn't coumt on a happy old age if you keep that up, then again you won't have the faculties left to know that. You should choose one or the other.

I just stick with some JD or Johnny Walker. Can't drink too much coffee or I cant sit still to write

I need music to write, usually something loud or obnoxious so I guess that would count too

Total silence.

Yeah. Whenever I see that "what are you listening to?" thread, I admit that I feel guilty that, while I'm writing, I'd prefer total silence around me--and certainly not a table at Starbucks.

No I take pills that speed me up and pills that chill me out. It's dumb.

The pot just makes me happy, able to write, and cures my chronic stomach pain from my condition.

Anyway- I can't believe I forgot my main staple!

No way I'm writing without my cigarettes.

Coffee and cigarettes.

Quiet is good sometimes. At other times some kind of background noise is better. It all depends on the mood.

There's far too much activity at a coffee shop for me to accomplish anything. Plus, I tend to get up often . . . for a bottle of water, to close or open a window, to file something that was on the desk, or even just to think.

Always a clear mind, not cluttered with any other thoughts

Depending on time of writing, a glass of red or strong coffee.

Relative quiet and not much else. When I feel compelled to write, I don't need anything else. If I don't feel compelled, I don't write.

Thin Lizzy and Scotch. And then the silence of the night.

But really lately, I have no 'regime' I just sit down open the document and begin typing. The actual act of writing is enough to make me drunk by itself. Plus I've found the more I write, the less I suffer from anxiety during the day.

Which is good.

I'm trying so hard to focus on writing my story right now. It's all in my head- and it's great, getting it down is that tricky part.

Ditto.

I do my best thinking in the shower (or cooking). I can't tell you of the amount of storylines or creative ideas I come up with. It's bloody annoying though, as by the time I've moisturised and dressed, I lose some of the best lines.

Coffee with chicory. Sweet and white.

And I will usually have youtube on and will be listening to one of these.

So long as I don't watch the video it's a good writing aid. Keeps away outside distractions and can help keep the writing flow going. Well, for me anyway.

I can't write at a coffee shop, but the people watching can lead to plot bunnies

Same. Music beforehand might help me get in the mood, but while writing I find it distracting. Writing or otherwise, the only drug I use is alcohol, and that maybe one glass a fortnight.

I do everything to music, read, work out, shoot pool, darts, ummm other activities...

So I don't think the music helps the writing specifically its just something I always have around, I find silence distracting and I find that music drives me. Maybe it is subliminal.

Just a keyboard attached to a computer. Like pilot, it's more the need to get the stories out and flowing. So far the biggest challenge has been when the dog and cat decide it's time for them to have at each other.

The early morning an hour or two before sunrise... and a cup of black tea. My mind is refreshed from sleep and the words flow better than at any other time of day.

Any of the Nine, but they are often busy elsewhere.

Good one! ;)

As for my muse - dunno, but I have noted that if I haven't had sex for a while I seem to be more creative, at least for the sex scenes. It might help but isn't necessary. Sometimes I'm in the mood, sometimes I'm not. But usually if I want to write I can sit down and get going. The more I write, the more I can write.

I don't do drugs - other than the ones the Dr. prescribes, - but I have noted that when I write with more than a few drinks I don't like my writing as much.
