I have waited now for seven months just to get a registered cd from NTL, which to those who don't know is the name of a telephone company in England.

This cd now gives me free access to the net, plus a whole load of things I need to learn about, (Damn it) and I was wondering. How easy has it been for all of you to get free internet services, I realise we are behind the world where free anything is concerned.

We seem to get stuffed, by who ever is selling the latest or greatest over here.

I am always suspicious when anyone one over here starts giving out wonderful deals, or at least deals that look wonderful on the surface.

So my question is simple, have any of you had to wait this long, or been jerked about by some company wanting to squeeze every last cent out of you.

Carl.

Either demand is awfully high for NTL services or they have their marketing concepts completely mixed up. Making consumers wait 7 months for a CD sort of voids the entire get their claws into you concept. Surely they aren't the only game in town?

I for one will trade you that scenario with ours: at home, work and a P.O. Box we get at least one free unasked for CD per week from AOL. That they have that much money to throw away is just plain scary.

It's nice that your phone company provides free access though, wish ours did. The free services here tend to be somewhat unreliable, along with tacking on ads, ads, and more ads.

Hey carl... at least yours is free mate... in the land of OZ I am yet to see that... but with the positives we do have good phonelines...

I use a local ISP. I had AOL for a while, but got way too much spam & I think it is too expensive for the service you get. It took 6 months for AOL to stop charging me, I had cancelled after 3 months. They are quick to take your money, not so quick to give it back. I pay $100.00 a year & have everything I need, including web space. The main problem with the free ISP is that the ads & banners never go away. I hate all that stuff cluttering up my screen. My sister uses NetZero & seems to like it pretty well. Good luck.

Payne: You were right, the demand was too much for them to handle, leaving the press over here to slag them off pretty badly. They weren't the only ones offering this, but it turned out that all these companies ran into trouble. Simply so as to get on the bandwagon, of offering a free service.

Svedish_chef: It'll come mate trust me, it will come.

Teresafannin: I was on AOL before switching, and although I have no complaints with the service, I was paying over one hundred pounds a month.

There are quite a few "free" internet services here in the US, but you have to live in a fairly large city to get a local dial-up number for them. Otherwise the long distance charges will negate the advantage of frre access.

Also, all the free access providers fill up a lot of your screen with banner ads.

Some freebies cost too much

I looked at the free thingy from KMart here in the land of the overrun with discount department stores. I concluded that I wasn't willing to put up with the banners and assorted other ads. These things take up too much space on the screen and they slow down the load time. It just irritates me too much. I used MSN for about a month. Hated it with a passion. It only worked well right before I had to get up and go to work. I've been using local providers for a while now. $15 a month and no busy signals and no ads. I can even drive down there and bellow at the morons running the place to my hearts content when my puter fux up and I blame it on them.

The thing about free stuff.... you get what you pay for.

I have Altavista FreeI and the banner isn't too bad. It about 1 inch by 5 inches. (Er, 2.5 cm by 12.5 cm?) I live near Boston so it's a local call and the service is decent. Better than AOL but not as good as Bell Atlantic was.

Hmmmmm.
It suddenly occured to me that all the measurements I read in the stories here are in inches. I don't think I've ever read a porn story in which certain body parts were measured in cm in fact.
Sort of odd that.
Hey, do people in non-U.S. countries ever have trouble converting when they read a story? So, I mean a ten inch one would be 25 centameters. Wow, 25. That sounds much more impressive. If I read a story about a 25 cm cock I'd be scraping my jaw off the floor for a few minutes until it dawned on me to do the math.

Wow. It's five am and I haven't had a bit of sleep.
Wow. it's getting light out now. Wow, just, wow..

"What do ya do?"

I'm a Webtv subscriber. My rate is $24.95 a month. But if I use another ISP it's $14.95 a month + the cost of the other provider. It would be OK if I could find a free service here where I live...Another thing that burnt my ass was,I don't own a credit card,so I wrote a blank check for them to deduct the payment from my checking account, and they charge me $5.00 fucking extra dollars for that. And sometimes I wait 30 minutes just to get on line...Well I think I'm done bitchin now."AH! I feel so much better now!"

Check out Juno.com. The advertisements stay in the mail reader with the level of service I've got.

I helped a friend set up a Juno account the other day, and they now have free web access. I'm not sure if the free service puts up a banner while you're online or not, but for me, the advertisements are no problem once I'm logged in.
