What Are You Thinking? Continued 7

I'm going for a walk. And then I'm going to find some porn and just call it a day.

Watching Bridget Jones Dairy with my BFF girly_girl, both eating Toblerone, texting back and forth, having a laugh in isolation.... Priceless ❤️

Being totally happy and content knowing I’ve found what I was looking for... Priceless 😘

The person who made the game “Simon Says” either hated Simon or had some weird relationship with him.

I don't feel like doing anything but sleeping, but I need to get food prepared.

There are probably sign language interpreters who are on local or national TV that every once in a while just tell a joke or make fun of the speaker without the vast majority of us knowing.

Coming from a family largely comprised of former, current, and future medical/healthcare professionals, I am disheartened listening to their fears and personal accounts of the inadequate supply of the basic protective gear and equipment they need to do their jobs. I understand that what we’re dealing with is unprecedented. Yet, living in a country with the vastness of resources that we have, it makes me wonder if it’s inability or unwillingness to simply make that happen. I have a very hard time believing that it’s the inability. Whatever they toll, whatever the cost, make it fucking happen. It’s that fucking simple. That’s what I’m thinking.

If you’re referring to the US, it’s not that simple. When the production of protective gear is outsourced to other countries, how do you expect us to just snap our fingers and obtain it?

America is the richest country in the world, incapable of dealing with pandemics because profit is the driving force behind our innovation. Basic medical coverage is too expensive for the average American yet you expect us to be prepared for an infectious disease rapidly infecting the entire population of the world?

There are people who could lose every loved one they have due to the US’s lack of preparedness and would STILL swear that Capitalism and the Free Market is perfect and government regulation will turn us into Socialist Venezuela.

... never mind

I was referring to the US. Ventilators are largely outsourced. Yet, the other primary PPE could VERY easily be manufactured here. That part is that simple.

Then to go back to your original question, the only thing that will drive the market is profit. That could either be seen as incapable or unwilling.

The FDA is willing to work with any manufacturer willing to produce PPE, according to a recent statement. But... is it profitable?

Capitalism doesn't care about what's right. It cares about what's profitable.

let’s be clear here. while profit is a component of capitalism, capitalism itself is an inanimate economic and political system. neither capitalism (nor socialism nor communism nor any of their variations for that matter) “care” about anything. only people can care. in a capitalist economy, industry is owned and controlled by individuals, not the government. so, it’s us, the people of the US, who care most about the amount of profit. and we are greedy. we seek maximum profits, often at any cost and without any regard for social justice nor consideration of the inherent effect on our strength as a nation or capacity to produce.

i don’t want the government in control of our economy. our government is inept and corrupt. it’s been this way for a very long time, regardless of who is president or what party has control. i want us to be better people, collectively, as a nation. maybe we will learn from this crisis that if we aren’t so greedy when times are good, we can preserve the ability to survive when times are challenging; take a little less all the time to be better when we’re in a bad time. it’s our industrial and corporate leaders, stockholders and organized workers (so it’s damn near all of us) who need to step up, sacrifice a bit and better prepare for a future where we are less exposed to the type of failures we are experiencing now.

Markets driven by considerations other than profit suffer sooner than later.
The USSR and much of the socialist enterprise is an example.
It takes a visionary leadership to pull out a crumbling economy from the bogs of a socialist economy.
Remember what Lady Thatcher did to the UK.
Carona shall pass.
America owes its present position (no it is not the richest country in the world)to its capitalistic ethos.
Kill that Kalvinistic ethos today you will have long term trouble at hand.

Today has been designated 'haircut day'.

I've never done it before, I've watched a few 'how to' videos, but I'm rather nervous...
