What Are You Listening to Now 7.0

Never heard of any of them, even after looking them up.

Okay.

Their 'alma mater' bands were The Flower Kings, Spock's Beard, Dream Theater, and Marillion.

Whatever ... it's worth looking them up - they're good.

They are all definitely firmly entrenched in the prog genre which sadly does cause isolation from the mainstream.

Of the four, drummer Mike Portnoy is arguably the most known - Hall of Fame drummer, winner drummer of the year from Modern Drummer more times than practically can be counted, played in Avenged Sevenfold and Twisted Sister when they needed a drummer besides many, many more bands and projects

Might be easier to name bands Mike has not played in.

A whole afternoon's worth of Draconian songs. One of my favorite gothic metal bands. Also, drowning in depressive music helps to lighten my depression somewhat.

As a taste:

How is it?

I appreciate BBT, but have never clicked with them...

It's good, very good. It's not as good as the English Electric albums IMHO, nor is it 'Prog album of the year' as numerous Prog publications are already screaming. It is a departure from their last bunch of pastoral albums which is nice - they were getting samey.

I have to listen some more to really get a feel for it. This is a relatively new line up as several long time key players are gone.

Moon Machine's eponymous first album.

This is another new release yesterday that I was very excited about - three young musicians from New Jersey with their first album.

I liked this a lot. It has a nice edge to it. I'm not drawing any comparisons which I like as it is more fresh and new. Maybe a simplified Dream Theater or Rush but while a very good clean sound not the technical prowess of the aforementioned two.
