Okay now follow me on this one. If you drink way too much beer for way too long then you're an alcoholic right? So what are you called if all you drink is N.A. (Non Alcohol) Beer? A Non Alcoholic? (Believe it or not this question came up between my wife and myself last night.)

Heehee, that's funny. I suppose if you're addicted to NA beer that would make you one. You could start a 12-stepper. NAA.

Depends on the kind of NA beer you're drinking. Cause most of it still has some alcohol in it... So maybe you're still an alcoholic.

Or maybe your taste buds are just all dead. For the life of me, I can't figure out why anyone would want to drink beer if the goal is not to get drunk!

Hope someone has a better answer than me!

I wasn't an Alcoholic, my wife just started getting worried about my drinking because her brother is one. So I quite drinking altogether for quite a while until someone turned me on to the N.A. Beers. (I love the taste of beer but I don't like to get drunk, strange thing for a German huh?) (Down Snoopy down. PM me and I'll explain that one.)

I drink maybe a six or so a night of O'Douls, or if I can find it O'Douls Dark. About all it does is clean out my Kidneys and Bladder.

Cat,

I didn't mean that You specifically were still an alcoholic! I meant it in the larger sense of things. I can't convey myself well tonight. No wonder my new story sucks. Sorry about the mix-up!

Now I thought NA Beer was called "Near Beer" Keeping with the rhyming theme wouldn't that make you an "Almost Alchoholic"?

I think there is a twelve step solution which may be applied.

Logophile,

Hey no sweat, I actually didn't take it that way and I'm sorry if it seemed like I did. I think the mixup was on my part.

Thanks for the roses Cat! And here's something for you...

12-step solution for someone addicted to non-alcoholic:

French Stella
Carling
London Pride Bitter
Black Rat Cider

Repeat.
Repeat.

12 steps of drinking and I guarantee you'd have trouble taking 12 steps when you were done.

I have to say that I do drink beer for the taste every so often. When I'm hot and thirsty and have been doing physical exertion or something I really don't want to do, then a ice cold beer is always spot on.

Hi SeaCat,

This is an interesting question. If my hubby were to drink 6 regular beers he would be feeling good to the point of starting to be a bit of a pain. Now if it were Near Beer, I dont think there would be an issue.
But... If you had only two regular beer, with the regular alcohol content, would that not be the same as drinking 6 of the Lite ones?

I have real issues with my hubby and alcohol. I feel he IS an alcoholic. Over this past weekend, he drank most of a 26er of Tequila, I had two shots. There is only maybe 4 ounces left, and out of the twelve Cerona (sp) I think they are all gone!

If it were only me with him here, I wouldnt care, he isnt a nasty drunk and doesnt get "drunk" too often, just happy.
But because of our kids it disturbes me that they are learning its okay to drink to excess. I wasnt raised with alot of alcohol, it was for special occasions in our house.

Im not saying you shouldnt drink it, its your choice, I know the near beer is expensive so Id rather see you drink one real one or even two real ones instead of 6 of the others.

I have started drinking supermarket own brand lager until I go to France to stock up on Stella Artois.

It is as near to 'Near Beer' as can be with low alcohol content. I can buy 4 cans for the price of one normal lager. It is good enough to drink with a fiery curry or any other strong flavoured food.

I have tried Tesco's, Waitrose's and Matteson's (Safeway). I still have Sainsbury's and Asda's to try locally. About £0.88 for a four-pack isn't breaking the budget.

Non-alcoholic lager is four or five times that price.
