Northeastern

Most people don't know it but this is actually what dictionaries are based on. If you don't believe me, pick up any American dictionary and look up "source" and "sauce" and you'll see they are written with the same vowel pronunciation.

Mine too.

I think the southern Ojib confused it. ;)

Not sure I can answer question 10 correctly.
10. Do you say words like BATH, PASS, and STAFF with the same vowel as BAT, PACK, and TRAP?
I didn't know it was possible to say BATH, PASS and STAFF with the same vowel as eachother.

But they're sure not like the next three, so "No" I guess.

And with that, I'm as Notheastern as EL.

I'm Midland now.

My "normal" accent is Northern, I've just been here in Kansas long enough that I've lost some of my yooper speak.

However, put me in the same room with a couple of my relatives and you'll hear it all come back - immediately.

hey, my results show that I'm Canadian...but I'm not.

However, my Mom is English, my Dad is from Hawaii and I grew up in Hawaii and California.

Filipino-American, maybe? My mom's Filipino and my dad was born in Oklahoma. So I'd say my accent is a cross between someone who's spent half his life climbing trees and eating mangoes and pineapples and the other half riding horses and listening to country music. Also, I was raised in Southern California, so throw some Valley Girl in there.

This actually pegged me very neatly to my childhood home. However, I think that to further discriminate between varying regional accents, it needs these questions added to the quiz:

(1) Does the word "wash" appear to you to have a letter R somewhere in the middle of it?

(2) Is the wet stuff down by the shore WAHTER or WOODDER?

(3) Is the second half of the state's name pronounced "Jersey" or "Joisey"?

(4) Are you, in fact, a fan of the Fluffya Iggles?

Minsue, too lazy to sign out the wife and sign in myself...;)

I now feel completely vindicated. I've been telling her this whole time I have an "accentless, generic American accent" and she wouldn't believe me. :p

Midland

("Midland" is not necessarily the same thing as "Midwest") The default, lowest-common-denominator American accent that newscasters try to imitate. Since it's a neutral accent, just because you have a Midland accent doesn't mean you're from the Midland.

It said I had a southern accent. To which I say, "No shit, y'all."

I've given up trying to figure out this following question, because, to be honest, it was beginning to piss me off. I'm still wondering who this "we" is and whether the test designer/writer knows people in coastal South Carolina, eastern Tennessee, and what's left of New Orleans (among other places) don't sound just exactly alike. So I wonder which "people down South" they had in mind.

15. If you say words like TIME, RIDE, MILE, I, etc., (WHO DOESN'T?) we (WE, WHO?) all know that there`s a way people (WHICH PEOPLE, SUGAH?) down South (WHERE "DOWN SOUTH"?)say those words. Don`t lie about it, (DOES THE WRITER THINK HAVING A "SOUTHERN ACCENT" IS SOMETHING TO BE ASHAMED OF?) how often do you ever say those kind of words (WHAT KIND OF WORDS, BUBBA?) like that? (LIKE HOW?)

Northern

You have a Northern accent. That could either be the Chicago/Detroit/Cleveland/Buffalo accent (easily recognizable) or the Western New England accent that news networks go for.

Almost right. I was born within a couple miles of a yellow spot.
Correct here.
I was born in the yellow, and lived in the yellow all but ten years so far.

I think I might still have a bit of English in my accent, but it's mostly Californian. :p
