Hmmm, I wonder if chemical castration would produce the same sorts of effect as far as staving off the onset of all the high-voice destroying physical characteristics? And, then, once the boys in question were old and had changed from cute little castrati to just another bunch of eunuchs, they could stop administering the drugs and see if they went back to normal.
 
I cannot laugh about castrati. Having researched them because of my grand opera bent I learned they made defective adult men on more levels than the one; few had the possibility for happiness, most suffered grievously. They grew up into grotesques as the hormonal skewing led to irregularities and imbalance particularly in the overgrowth of limbs (not to mention the psychological damage). More boys than are known died from the procedural clipping. The movie, "Farinelli", about the most famous clipped one did him a disservice, attraction-wise the real man looked nothing like the buff actor that played him.
