What a difference a day makes

Yesterday I checked out the toplists. I was amazed to see one of my Celebrities stories (the only one with enough votes to qualify) was sitting at #4. Last time I'd looked it was in the 100s.
Nothing had changed vote wise. But it was at 4. My gast was flabbered.
I did notice a lot of the top stories were by one author.
Today my story has gained a vote. This is a very rare occurrence. It's been 1 bombed and isn't even on the toplist.
The top 10 stories are all by the same author.
The other couple of authors that were in the top 10 are nowhere in sight.

I smell a sewer rodent.

Roll on the sweeps.

The Toplists, as well as Lit's questionable method of keeping track of votes is virtually meaningless...they might as well use a big wheel and just spin it...round and round she goes, where she'll stop, no one knows...

Just ignore the Toplists and write the best you know how...

Amen. The last time I checked, I had #1 & #3 in LW. That was weeks ago (for all I know they're no longer in the top 50). I don't even bother to check because of the crap that goes on. The fact that the stories reached that high reminds me that the voters enjoyed them enough to get there. Whether they stay or not is irrelevant (but I do have a screenshot to prove it ).

Agreed.
I look at the lists to get an idea of what rates as a "good" story. I've long since realised that what I consider a good story is not going to be a top rater - I like proper grammar and punctuation and stories with a little realism...

But I do find it more than a little unusual that one author has the top 10 stories in any category.

I haven't checked the Toplists in so long, I have no idea if I have any stories on it anywhere...I tend to lose a lot of votes, and my scores usually drop significantly with each 'sweep'.

I don't know if I would even go that far, rating a story on the Toplists as a "good" story. I would say though, that a story with a lot of votes, and a decent score would be one to look at.

Yeah, that smells a little like bad tuna to me too...the same writer with the top 10 spots...

NOw in the late evening, with several wines under my belt, I wonder why anywone would bother going to all the effort of pushing their barrow that hard.
Let him have his moment in the sun.
Mind you, I'm still pissed that the one bomb dropped me from high in the toplist to off it entirely. But it won't kill me.

I post my stories at several online sites. Some allow voting, like StoriesOnLine

Those that do allow voting are often (always) gamed by authors and readers alike, both for popularity and punishment.

That is among the reasons I post at several sites, to take an average if you will of votes, comments and flames...

Human nature can be so ummm human!
