So today I hit the garage sales.

I got there EARLY....yes, I got up at 5:30am in search of the elusive perfect bargains.

Jackpot. The house of an elderly couple yielded a cache of old comic books and childrens books, several of which I decided to purchase (at $1 apiece).

I know NOTHING about comic books or old books in general, but I did find the things that I currently have in my posession listed on Ebay and ALL of the ones I bought are in excellent condition:

Purcahse #1 ($1) currently listed on Ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...MEWA:IT&viewitem=&item=140068196951&rd=1&rd=1

Purchase $2 ($1) currently listed on Ebay:

(mine is in better condition than this one)

http://cgi.ebay.com/Felix-the-Cat-4...oryZ3972QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem

Purchase #3 ($1)

http://cgi.ebay.com/LONE-RANGER-194...egoryZ64QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem

Plus, I bought a very old copy of a childrens book called "Arabian Nights". On the first (blank) page is written in pencil: "To Henry, X-Mas 1922"

It is in pretty good shape. I've been unable to find it on Ebay or anywhere else, so I'll keep looking around.

I plan to list all of my finds for sale and see what they bring. Heck, even if I get $10 each for them, that's still 10 times more than what I paid for them.

I LUV garage sales. :D

Sure. I'd rather sell privately than list on Ebay anyway. I just wish I knew what a fair price to ask for it would be.

I'm totally impressed. Looks like you have to know what you're looking for to get the worthwhile bargains.
btw - isn't Felix the Cat the old X-rated comic?

Yeah, I really don't know what I'm looking for though. I don't know the first thing about comics. He had a bunch. I just bought a few that I'd heard of before.

For all I know, I may have passed up things much more valuable.

The Felix book looks pretty tame to me.

Fritz the Cat, not Felix. Felix the Cat was the inspiration for those wagging tail cat-clocks.

FinePhilly, you should go to a comic book store ASAP. You´re sitting on thousands of dollars. Hell, first print Disney comic books are worth their weight in gold in Germany, literally. They sell for €100, on a bad day.

Huh. I'll have to check it out. I'm not in a huge hurry to sell them, so I may take the time to see what a comic store says.

I adore yard sales!

My most recent steals have been:

1) A cute denim jacket with velvet detailing that has drawn a lot of admiration. The closest thing I can find to it sells for almost $40, and I bought it for $1.

2) Two children's flower lights from IKEA, retail value of $12ea, purchased two for $1

3) A 300W transformer, $5

4) My new favorite pair of khaki capris, $.50

5) My new favorite sport jacket in lilac, grey, and black, $.50

Yard sales rock.

Just get a comic book price guide from chapters. But to be honest, they won't be worth much. The most 20 bucks if it's in very good condition. Why? They're not key storyline issues or hot titles.

How fun -- you deserve rewards for getting there at that un-godly hour.

Philly, that is a beautiful book. I collect old childrens' books and while I'm by no means an expert I'd be very happy to have that in my collection.

I love poking through garage sales. It's strange what people buy and even more amazing what they throw out.

I've decided I'm going to take it to a local book dealer that specializes in old and out of print books this upcoming week.

I know nothing about books, but I do know that everything depends on condition and such, so we will see what they have to say.

I'll keep you updated for sure!

It's a good thing you're not a math teacher.

Congrats on your purchases, in any case!
