I love western movies and book and thought that i would try such a thread here if there are an interrest. Anyone would be welcome to sign up. My only demands are that the writers have to show consideration to eachother and no one liners please. Don't need to write a novel though. Both new writers and experts are welcome.

The idea is for the thread to take place in Jarbidge, Nevada in the year of 1879. Jarbidge comes from a Nez Perce word "Jahabich." which means devil. It was their name for the nearby mountains, which they believed to be haunted by an evil giant. Or it might have been a Shoshone word "Tsawhawbitts," their word for "man-eating giant."

The first white men in the area were ranchers. Some raised horses and cattle. But large sheep herds began showing up in the 1850s. These ranchers supplied towns in Southern Idaho and Northern Nevada with meat and wool. There had always been legends about gold in the Jarbidge Mountains, but nobody had really looked for it.

If you are interrested you can write a profile here. My thoughts are that we create something together. Improvising is the word.

Sarah Chase

28 years old,
Widow- husband went out looking for some of that rumored gold and was delivered home thrown over his horse-dead.
She lives alone in a small house her husband built in hopes of starting a cattle ranch. He left to go prospect to raise money to buy cattle.
She's 5'4" 110 pounds. Long auburn hair and green eyes.

Sarah looked out the window and saw a cloud of dust approaching her house.
She assumed it was the postman, he was the only one who ever came out to the Bar C. He always stayed just long enough to help her with some chores and have a drink. He said his wife told him to make sure she had everything she needed. He was a kind man, and always a gentleman.

All the townsfolk seemed to be nice, whenever she went into town, the wives always pulled her in for tea & gossip. They felt bad for her, being a widow and all, with each visit they tried to convince her to sell and move back to town where they could watch over her. Each time she refused, wanting to keep her spread as long as she could. Which according to the records at the bank, wouldn't be long. She'd think of something though.... she had to.

The rider approached, this however, was not the postman.....

I had an idea for a western character that I thought would be fun to play, let me know if it fits

Name: Theodore Carlysle IV
Occupation: Town Sheriff
Age: 25
Height: 5'11
Weight: 170lbs
Brown hair, green eyes

Story: Theodore Carlysle IV had been born into the upper crust of Boston society. A descendant of those who'd sailed on the Mayflower, he was born into wealth, privilege and all of the snobbery that came with it. An education at Harvard taught him of the classics and further established his credentials as someone who would soon follow his father into politics.

But Theodore shocked everyone he knew when, upon graduation, he packed his things and moved west. Late at night, in his dormitory room, he would put down the works of Dante and Chaucer and would pick up the dime store novels that told of shootouts, pretty indian maidens and dastardly ne'er-do-wells receiving their comeuppance. When he finished his Doctorate, Theodore boarded the first train that would take him into Nevada territory.

Truth be told, Theodore had simply hoped to be a writer, perhaps start a newspaper. But there was little interest in the written word in Jarbridge and he'd had to look elsewhere for employment. When elections for the position of Sheriff had come along, Theodore had thrown his name into the ring. A crooked county official, familiar with his Father's political connections, had rigged the election to go in Theodore's favour. Now, having never fired a gun in his life, Theodore has found himself over his head, trying to bring law to a place that just don't cotton to it.
