Tara had gotten divorced right after the wedding... she only got married to save her own skin back when she was 20, if she hadn't gotten married to rough around the edges city boy she would have lost her fathers farm and her pride right on with it. She had only been married a month and she and her husband were both only in it to gain what they needed from one another, for him money and respect, for her pride and family ties. What happened in that month tara had fell in love sure they didn't kiss, they didn't make love.. but he was good to her, there when she needed him, kind to her, and stood up for her when she took the flack of marrying to young.. the divorce was sudden and Tara used the excuse to her family and friends that she was to country for him.. though deep inside she wasn't going to get hurt. Now 6 years later and a engagement to a man that meant nothing to her, although she pretended well even to her ex that would show up in her life out of nowhere and tell her guess what I never signed the papers were still married.

Long role detailed.

Mark had no idea how Tara would react having him back in her life. He was sure she would be rather upset that he hadn't sent in the divorce papers. He hadn't even signed them. He had a real problem understanding himself why he hadn't signed the papers and put the short marriage in the past. He should have given her, her freedom back. That was why he instigated the divorce in the first place. The guilt of taking advantage of a desperate young woman who would do anything to save her fathers ranch. That was how he saw it. He had been using her for his own benefit. She deserved her freedom. He hadn't anticipated that the years he had spent away from her would have him missing her in his life.

Tara

Tara was sitting on the front steps of the old rancher home, she was thinking in a few weeks she would be married to a man she didn't love.. sure he was kind to her and there when she needed him but there were no sparks, there was only one man that had ever fuled her fire and he was still the only man that could always do that. She sighed and once again pushed her month long wedding from her mind she didn't marry then for love and she wasn't marrying now for love, she pulled her shoulder length brown hair up into a ponytail and went in search for sunshine her favorite horse, riding always seemed to help her clear her mind, she knew Mark didn't marry for love.. and she was a fool to think that when the divorce happened she would presume he might just stay... now six years later and she wondered why she never admitted her feelings, hell she knew why she was young and foolish, but she'd never get the chance to be with the one man she could never really have.. now with a high profile marriage that she didn't even want but was expected.. her chance for happiness was gone.

Mark

It was a typical day at the Campions. Mark felt as he had never left. Mary Campion was already working up steam as she unrelentingly bore into him with her words. There had never been another person that could make Mark feel like a school boy like his mother. He had to fight the urge to just stare down at his feet's, just like he used to do as a kid when Mary told him that he had did something wrong. Which had been to often to count. When he grew older he had grown to respect her even more as he knew he must have been a pest.

"What have i done to earn such a son as you?" Mary said in a firm voice. Both her voice and posture told him more of her temperament than her words did. He knew that once she calmed down they would be fine. It was just a matter to ride out the storm.

He glanced to his left and raised his eyebrows at Nathan who just stood there and couldn't completely hide his grin. His younger brother just shrugged his shoulders and pretended to focus on something else. Mark knew that he kept listening though.

Nathan was just 2 years younger than Mark and when they grew up it had been them against the world. It had mostly been Mark that had drawn Nathan into trouble but to be fair it had always been Mark that had taken the blame for any mischief they did as well.

He returned his gaze to his mother but the outbreak was over and she put her arms around him in a tight hug.

"Sorry i have stayed away so long." Mark finally manage to say after he are released from her strong arms.

"And how long do you plan to stay?" She question him.

"Not sure." Mark smile slightly. He hadn't really decided how long he would stay. He needed to sort out this divorce matter with Tara but felt a little nervous also.

"You going to see Tara?" The change in her voice make him look at her. Was something wrong with Tara? He felt a knot in his throat just by thinking of her.

"Yeah. Need to sort out this mess i created. One way or another." He say and smile slightly.

"Don't hurt her?" Mary order him and he nods in reflex to her tone.

"I never intend to." He say. He don't mention that he think that she may have more power of hurting him than he her.

Tara

Tara reighned sunshine up, her family wasn't anywhere near they lived in kansas City, and her one family member that had given her everything and had taken care of her, was gone from her life.. the only family she really had was Marks.. they still treated her so well.. she thought she might take a trip over there, it was only about a ten minute walk, but she could ride the back way on sunshine and then tie her to the tree and it was a few minutes... she hadn't been there in a month or so.

She took a deep breath she thought after the divorce Mary wouldn't talk to her, and she wouldn't have blamed her but they really didn't know each other all that well.. but Mary was quite good to her coming by after Mark left and bringing her dinner and making sure she was okay telling her that she hoped they could stay friends.. and Tara was grateful for that.

Tara smiled at the memory of the last day she was with Mark, he kissed her on the cheek thanked her and told her that this had been a good month for him, there was no I love you's or anything else.. but he was there for her.. and told her she could find him if she needed him although that part wasn't true cause she did look for him.

She decided to go and see Mary, it always seemed to make her days go better. She smiled and rode sunshine, to the small house Mary and her next to oldest son shared. She hated going empty handed usually bringing pies or special bisquits that she had baked. She tied sunshine up and walked to the house.

Tara smiled to herself looking at the quant home as she rang the doorbell.

Mark

Mark just pondered what he should do. Why didn't he just sign the damn papers and then talked with Tara. He sighed as he just couldn't figure it out. They didn't even have a real marriage. He looked down at the damn papers as the doorbell rang. Sighing he sguffled them back in the white envelope and lay down the pen on the table. He look down at himself and smile slightly. He had never thought he would miss wearing jeans and a regular shirt as he had mostly been in his business suit for the last few years. He was also surprised that his old clothes still suited him.

As he was home alone. Nathan had taken their mother out to dinner. They had asked if Mark would like to come but as he had so much to think about he stayed at the house.

When he open the door he stand face to face with a smiling Tara. He just stare at her as his mind try to figure out why she's there. He force a smile at her.

"Hello Tara." He manage to say without his voice cracking.

Tara

Tara hoped Mary wouldn't be mad that she hadn't been by in a month but with taking care of the farm and the horses, she had a hard time finding time for even herself. She decided to ask mary to dinner over the weekend as well.

Tara tugged at her dark dark brown hair suddenly she felt more than a little nervous why she really wasn't sure... there was something about visiting Mary and her youngest son that made her nervous at times.. they never mentioned Mark to her thinking that divorce must have ended bad in the fact that he left town right afterward.

She rang the bell and waited for the door to open, patiently she looked back at sunshine and still remained with the smile on her face when the door opened and she got the shock of her life.

What? Was all she could ask herself.. what was he doing there... he had to just get in town cause she was sure given the chance mary would have called and told her... she was speechless as she looked at him.

Mark wondered what thoughts went in her head as he just looked at her. He didn't know that she and his mother used to meet. That was his own fault though as he hadn't spoken to Mary much in the past 6 years. When they spoke they merely talked about non personal things. He still felt guilty for that.

Maybe she was there to see Nathan? He had never thought that maybe she and Nathan saw each other. That was a new thought and he didn't like how it made him feel. He wasn't used to feel jealous. He didnt like the feeling. Especially being jealous of his younger brother.

"You wan't to see Mary?" He ask as he step away from the door to let her come in if she wish.

"You just missed her. She and Nathan just left." He look her over. He hadn't realised how much he had missed her. Not only her company but he had missed how she looked. She wasn't one of the girls he had dated in the big city. She was more genuine and less money hungry.

Tara

tara had to get herself together, here was the man that she lied to when he left said she had no feelings kissed him on the cheek and wished him well, while the whole time they lived together the month anyway though there was no lovemaking or passionant kisses she had fallen in love with. He had every right to be there it was his mothers house after all.

A million thoughts were racing through her mind, but she couldn't get the one question from her mind why was he back? Lame question he had a right to come home every right... but now a few weeks before her wedding...

She could only nod her head and then decided to gain her composure.. ''Yes.'' She said softly and smiled.

''Thats okay I just wanted to invite her to dinner after church this sunday.'' She said.. ''Please tell her I stopped by and to call me.'' She went to leave when she felt him touch her arm softly.

Mark didn't know why he did it. Just an impulsive moment. He touched her arm gently as she turned to leave. "Please wait." He said. "Please come in." He say and let go of her arm. What the hell should he say. How could he explain why he hadn't signed the damn papers when he couldn't get the reason himself.

He waited for her to either go or come in. Just then his cell phone rings. He take up.

"Yes?"

"Why didn't you tell me you was gonna leave?" The angry voice of Marie greeted him. Mark grimaced.

"Call you later" He said and disconnected the call.

Turning to Tara he give her an apologising smile..

Tara

His touch was something she had missed, though she wasn't sure why, he hugged her often held her hand in public, after all they had to make there marriage seem real.. but this time it was different she was older so was he, and my how he changed he was even sexier than she remembered. She took a deep breath and smiled sweetly at him... ''Okay.. I'll come in.'' she said softly not wanting him to think she was rude.

She watched as he answered his phone but continued looking at the floor, cause she was sure he would be able to read her thoughts or see her feelings clear on her face... she couldn't get to close Mark wasn't the settling type never has been after all.

Tara noticed the look in his own eyes when he seemed annoyed by the voice on the other end as she stayed quiet not wanting to interupt.

She then thought perhaps a girlfriend and jelousy hit her hard, but she had no right to be jelous she was getting married after all.. she wondered if he had heard and thats why he wanted to speak with her.

She smiled slightly as he smiled at her.. she leaned silently against the door and looked at him.. she needed to break the silence.

''so how have you been?'' She asked in a stutter.

Mark

(Sorry that i haven't posted. RL got in the way big time)

Mark felt nervous. A strange feeling for him. He had been with beautiful women but just being around Tara had him losing whatever he had planned to say. This was even worse as he actually hadn't planned anything. What reason had he of inviting her in? He had no idea. He looked at her as she leaned in the doorway.

"I have been fine." He said with an ironic smile. He felt the situation a little funny as well as awkward. He had been married with her for christ sake. Not that they had a normal marriage but he shouldn't feel awkward around her but he did.

"Something going on in your life." He asked with a smile. "Wan't some coffee?" He continued before she has a chance to respond.

Tara

(I know the feeling np)

Tara smiled and walked into the house but stayed in the doorway, how nervous she was didn't show, she had no right to be angry at him for never checking on her what right did she anyway she wanted the divorce.. well they planned it together after all, what did she want him to beg her to give them a chance... why did he have to be everything she wanted and why come back now?

''Me too.'' She said diverting his gaze as she shut the door that sounded like the barrier, something she shouldn't have done now she was in his domain.

''Sure.'' She said and followed him into the kitchen Tara wasn't the type of girl to beat around the bushes. ''Why are you here after all this time?'' Tara asked and looked at him as she sat in a chair at the kitchen table.

Mark

He had no idea how to answer that question. Why had he came back? This was his home? It really wasn't anymore. While he thought about it he poured up a cup of coffee and put it in front of her before he sat down opposite of her at the table.

"To be honest. I am not sure why i returned here. All i get from it is people yelling at me all the time." He smile at her. The smile fade as he think of Marie. The girlfriend back in the city. She sure wasn't happy he left without much of a word. The fact that she wasn't concerning him told him that his feelings for her wasn't as deep as he thought they should be.

He look down at the divorce papers in the envelope on the table and almost reach for them. He should sign them and have it over with and then give them to her for signing. He looked up at her. His thoughts wasn't showing on his face.

"How are your family?" He asked, deliberately keeping the subject neutral.

Starr

Starr looked at him waiting for a answer and she could tell it was a rather touchy subject she hadn't expected to see him ever again, she thought when she signed the papers and gave him to sign them and mail them off everything would be over and done for them.. but that was by far not the case.

She looked at him serious as he spoke. ''I wonder why.'' She mumbled a little more bitter than what she expected then again she was sure why his family might be upset they had every right to be, he hadn't called them but every once in a while.

She sighed as she stood up and walked over to the counter she was to antsy she made her own coffee and handed him a cup as well.

''We don't talk much.'' She said that was a touchy subject for her and she didn't want to talk about it. ''But there fine otherwise.'' She said honestly.

''So do you like life in the big city?''

Mark

He smile at her question if he enjoy life in the big city. He had done much to leave his life here to get a new life. Now he wasn't sure if it was worth it after all.

"It is alright there." He choose to answer. Maybe the time away had made him see that the small town charm wasn't so bad. He sure was glad to be home again. That thought wasn't so pleasing though. His life was in the big city now. Could he go back to be the local guy again?

"It is a lot different there." He smile again, trying to masquerade his longing for times past. Easier times. "More hectic. I miss the small town mentality. The slowness of it all." He sip his coffee as he look at Tara.

"All was easier. I knew what i wanted. Now that i have it i am not so sure it was worth it. People drag me to different directions all the time." He shrug his shoulders.

Tara

She returned his smile kindly but didn't say anything she waited for his answer and wondered if he would tell her if he had kids if he had gotten remarried or had a girlfriend but honestly she wasn't so sure she wanted to know any of that at the moment.

She was suprised that he really didn't gloat about his new life in the big city.. but why would he to her anyway he wasn't really that type of man. She took a deep breath sipped her coffee and listened to him intently.

''I don't think I could ever leave here.. its always been right where I want to be.'' She whispered softly and smiled at him. ''I am surprised that you missed it at all.'' She said gently and smiled brightly.

''Thats life in the fast lane.'' She said witha slight laugh not wanting to ask personal questions just yet.

Mark smile at her. "I am quite surprised myself that i missed this place. All my childhood i dreamt of getting away. Doing better and bigger things." He finish his coffee and walk up and pour himself some more. He stand there with the mug in his hand and look at her as if he are deep in thoughts.

"You belong here. I don't think you would like it in the city." He smile slowly but he feel a little sad at the truth of his words. He wasn't sure he was fit for small time life anymore. He had done to much to settle here again. Would he be happy? Was he happy in the city? He wasn't so sure anymore.

What should he say to her about the divorce papers. That he had misplaced them and needed a new signature from her? He looked down at the envelope on the table as his mind raced. He wasn't sure of anything longer. He came here to get the divorce going again as Marie had proposed. He still didn't know how to decide on that though. He knew he didn't love her. He had already married once when there was no love involved. Now that he looked at Tara he knew that he had desired her from the start. He had just been to stubborn to realise that. Was there more feelings for her than lust? That he couldn't answer. He was sure though that he did not want to marry again without love being involved.

"I am glad you have a good life." He finally say.

Tara

''Sometimes bigger isn't always better, and life being better isn't always waht it seems.. you missed out on alot Mark, did you know your brothers engaged? I am sure your mom hasn't told you yet cause they wanted to keep it quiet. but he's happy extremly happy, or that your mom has made me feel part of her family...'' She was about to say yours but she wasn't part of his not anymore.. she was also about to say did you know I was engaged, but didn't.

She wasn't sure if he was contradiciting her or not, nor did she care truth was she did belong there, not that she wouldn't fit in.. cause tara was resourceful. ''You belong here to Mark, you can put the city in the man, but you can never take the country from the boy.'' She said with a happy grin.

He seemed to be deep in thought and Tara figured it was now or never. ''So your mom didn't mention it.. but have you remarried, any kids?'' She asked softly looking as if she was going to cry not wanting to imagine if he did.

''Its good.'' She said without much enthusiasm

Mark

Mark looked at her strangely. He couldn't read what she was thinking. She just looked to be sad.

"I haven't remarried." He said softly. He felt a little guilty. He was still married to her. "No kids and don't plan to marry." He smiled a little ironically. He looked down at the envelope holding the divorce papers again. Better to get it right this time.

He took up the envelope from the table and looked at her. "Our marriage are the reason i came home." He smile slightly as he open the envelope and place the divorce papers in front of her.

"Seem we need to write new signatures. I have somehow misplaced the other papers." He say as he sit down on the chair next to her. He feel really badly now. She may have moved on with her life without him but he had thought more and more of her lately.

Tara

Why was he looking at her that way she wondered she took a long deep breath and looked away for a moment.

Why was she glad that he hadn't remarried, when she was planning to do so... she shook the thought from her head and looked away and smiled for a moment. ''Me either.'' She said softly and looked away she was about to tell him that she was planning to remarry in two weeks.

''Our marriage?'' She asked confused what marriage they barely had a marriage when they were married, she wasn't quite sure what he meant, had he wanted her back, calm down Tara there was another reason.

Was she hearing him right were they still married? This couldn't be right no way no how. She felt her heart banging against her chest. She laughed slightly... ''Are you serious? How I signed you signed.. you were supposed to mail them off.'' She was confused and it showed.

Mark

He felt really awkward as he looked at her. To gain some time to think he took a sip of his coffee. He couldn't come to an explanation that satisfied him. How could he then expect her to be satisfied.

"Hmm. I think i misplaced the papers and then it slipped my mind." He shrugged and smiled a little embarrassed. "I have them here." He nods. He think back to the good time they shared. There must be something more he had felt than just friendship.

He folded his arms to see how she reacted to his words.

Tara

He gave her a funny look and she had no idea what to say to him.. or really how to react, angry, confused.. come on Tara think girl think, but what was she to say really.

''You misplaced the papers.. mark I moved on I started over.. I didn't think you were ever coming back.. I..'' She let her anger get the best of her and calmed down. ''I am getting married.'' She said looking away from him and standing up walked to the window.

She sighed not able to look at him.. ''Did you forget on purpose?'' She asked seriously.
