I was researching something to help my wife with a newspaper quiz and I found the history of St Nicholas Church, Chiswick (by the River Thames).

There used to be a row of ancient cottages by the river next to the church. They were called Fishermen's Place. The original name was:

Slut's Hole

That reminded me that a street in the City of London, probably inhabited by women of a similar profession, was called:

Grope Cunt Lane

Our ancestors were not mealy-mouthed about place names.

There was a Grope Cunt Lane in York too, now tastefully renamed Grape Lane...

I know of a residential street in Cardiff called Cuntwell Avenue :D Ok, so it's actually spelled 'Cyntwell', but some bright spark got rid of the stem of the 'y' to turn it into 'Cuntwell'. If it were a nicer part of town, I'd so buy a house there :catroar:

I would sooooo live on Slut's Hole or Grope Cunt Lane.

I dated a girl who lived on Gay Drive, but the residents had the name changed to Breezy Woods Drive. They got tired of hearing, "Oh, you live out on Faggot Lane."

Current for sale in OK:

SNATCH FARM, SNATCH LANE, UBLEY, BS40

And they wants 750,000 quid, gov'nor.

I think they were just a bit more realistic in 'the olden days' than we are - they called a cunt a cunt!

I think people were not more rude, but more honest. I think they were also more reasonable because they had red light areas with names like Cunt Lane et al.

More History

The City of London's Grope Cunt Lane changed its name to Grubb Street.

Grubb Street was renowned as the meeting place of scurrilous authors and salacious newspapers. 'Grubb Street' is still used as an epithet for rude writing.

Grubb Street, formerly Grope Cunt Lane, seems to be an ideal address for Literotica's authors.

The City of London changed its name again to something mundane but everyone in the City knows that the Lane was both Grubb Street and Grope Cunt Lane.

Good names cannot die.
