okay, so I'm not sure if I've mentioned it before or not, but the van I'm driving is actually my dad's. Well, he gave it to me but I didn't have the money to put it in my name so we left it in his and now he says he never gave it to me and he's leaving some pretty big hints that he wants it back now. And there's a list a mile long of things that need to be fixed, including attaching a part that has been in the trunk for nearly a year.

Well I got my promotion in July, and my bills are all caught up now, so I have to get serious about saving for a car. I mean they doubled my income when I got promoted, putting back a bit of that should be no big deal right?

Here's the thing.....I CAN'T STOP BUYING FABRIC! Any one who has been to my apt has seen the 3 large totes, one huge box, and one med tote that's over flowing, not to mention the basket and tote by my sewing table and they are all full of fabric. I don't need any more, I have tons of projects I can work on, I need to start using this stuff insted of collecting it.

So for the next month I am putting myself on restriction! No buying fabric unless I get a special order, or run out of lining. If I can make it thru the month then I should be toned down a lot...and really it's like 6 weeks cause I'm starting today and setting my end date for halloween.

I'll be reporting here, so swats, scolding, and encouragement are all welcome. And if I start getting cranky from with drawls I appologize now.

What is it that you do?

I can relate to the spend a thon somewhat.
Whenever my income has jumped like that, or say when my financial aid comes in, I think of all of the things I had wanted to buy but couldn't. Then I determine that I better buy them NOW before I run out of money. lol
However, there always comes a time when I either runb out of money or decide that I have bought everything that I absolutely had to have.

For you, you need to get a car. This does not mean that you have to stop buying fabric altogether but that maybe you should only buy what is on sale and put the extra money toward your new car? Just a thought.

Good luck, I am sure that you will be able to rein yourself in so to speak. :)

LOL, is that all you have?!! I had a huge collection before moving here and my mother has those nice big roomy old fashioned wardrobes (2-3 doors) which she has put shelves into and has more than a couple filled to the hilt with all types of fabric. She has of late been inviting people to help themseves as her health no longer permits her to sew and she is keen to clean out all she can before she dies so we won't have the worry.

I love doing stuff like that.

There was a shop at one point that was selling my costumes, when the owner admited to a very strong cheerleader fetish (this was not the normal fetish but insted a very dark tigh her down and beat her senceless fetish), out came the idea of creating cheerleader costumes for the shop. Goth subbie cheerleaders, black and silver velvet with targets on the ass, dog collars, cuffs and ankle cuffs, and to top it all off suade flogger pompoms.

That was a fun halloween. :cathappy:

I bet!

Gooooo Wrencie!

I'm pulling through you.

I've sort of been where you are btw. After my grandfather died, my grandmother "gave me his car."

How nice, right?

Only she refused to put it in my name and they got nasty as week old shit in the sun!

So, I couldn't get the tag, title and insurance set up. I drove it back to her and left it at her house.

I tried being on a bead/silver diet, but all it meant is that I was getting people emailing me about when whatever would be back up....argh....

The real test is going to come when I have to go shoping for an order. Which will be soon, I'm taking measurements for one today. So the trick will be to go in and only buy what I need for that order and nothing else...*deep breath* I can do that.

measured the 8 year old for her dress, but I'm not going shoping today.....I'm jonesin so bad! I want more pretties!

You can send me some and then you'd have an excuse to buy more :D

hehehehe that's brilliant! :D

but won't help the saving money part of this equation.

So okay, today is the day I buy the fabric for the little girl's dress. I am just buying 3 yards of black panne velvet, and 1.5 yards of green panne velvet. That's it....no more....I hope.

Did you buy the fabric yet? Were you able to get out with just what you needed?

9 days and so far I'm holding strong. :)

the real test comes over the next two days, just got paid and I'm off work. *bites nails* But I really need to finish up some of these projects I have started.

be strong Wenchie !!!!!
finish the projects... don't go shopping !!!

I have a friend that does the whole fabric thing....

personally mine is the dollar store....
walk in for noodles & munchies for lunch & walk out with stuff for the car, craft stuff, kitchen tools......
then the hardware store (Canadian Tire)...
went in for ONE bottle of tire sealant...
walked out with over $100 worth of stuff....
but, but, but... the table saw was on sale... almost 1/2 off...
& my tools are going missing it seems & the kits were 60% off....

I need strength too !!!!!

(but rent got paid :) )
