This evening I decided to try a recipe I have seen from time to time. Unfortunately I didn't have quite everything I needed so I had to modify it on the fly. I'm glad I did though because the results were incredible.
The dish is called Fleischkeukle.
In a largish bowl mix 1/2 pound each of ground beef and pork. To this add Salt, pepper, half an Onion and of course paprika. (I measure by look. For the salt and pepper I pour enough of each to cover the palm of my hand. I double that for the paprika.) Add a splash of water to make mixing a bit easier.
Now I used some tubed Pizza Dough from Walmart. I rolled this out and cut it into thirds. This gave me three slices about four inches wide by six inches long.
Dust each slice with flour and then roll out nice and thin. On one half of each slice drop a good handfull of the meat mixture. Fold the other half of the slice over the top and seal the edges by pressing together with your fingers.
While you're doing this heat up your deep fryer. (I heated mine to 374°F or 190°C.)
Gently place the rolls into the hot oil one at a time and cook for about two minutes per side. (One at a time because they seem to magicaly grow.) Remove from the deep fryer and drain on Paper.
Talk about tasty and they can be served many ways.
They remind me in some ways of the Pasties from the Mid West.
