Well Whaddya know . . .

yes :)

it's difficult to rejoice in these things, because a few months from now she may be assassinated, or accused of graft, or any number of things that prove that lesbians should not try to be mayors.

As the Chinese say;
"Too soon to tell."

Wonders never cease

I'm pretty sure there are other lesbian Mayors but I do say that for her to win in Houston is somewhat surprising to me. Then again my idea of Houston may be passe. I remember when this would not have been possible

Remember she's not the first, just the first in a truly large city. Actually, I wouldn't have been surprised if it had been Austin or San Antonio but I do admit to being really gratified that Houston elected her on her record and ignored the howling rabble.

I do not like the manner in which these things are reported:-

"This election has changed the world for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered community. "

After all, it would hardly be "news" if the headline had read: "Hetero wins Mayoral election" would it? So why should it be so 'important' that a lesbian has won it to warrant the prime headline ?

What was that about equality ?

How exactly would that make her any different than other mayors around the world? ;)

The others are not evil lesbians that should be destroyed before they destroy our American Way Of Life.

Didn't you read the memo? :confused:

When it is reported that someone ran and was elected for office with no mention of their color, ethnicity, place of national origin or anything other than their name, that will be news.

I feel ya. Them hemo and shemo types are always being held accountable for shit that your typical senator who drives into a fountain with a hooker gets away with.

Martin Luther King would be proud. That was his dream. ;)
