Out of boredom this morning, whilst having my morning cup of coffee, I checked out a website that I'd heard of Missing Money.
Lo and behold there sat my name...stating that NJ had property of mine...or my dads, as it was last recorded at an address we had both resided at 8yrs ago. No idea what it is...and I have to make a request for it before learning if its mine or my fathers, and what the hell it is.
Oh, and for skeptics, this website was actually listed in New Jersey's official lost property webpage, and doesn't cost you anything to search or make a claim.

Probably an arrest warrant.

Found money is how they round you guys up.

Yup, I'll presume you speak from experience

Not knowing your father, it wouldn't surprise me if JBJ was right. That is the type of scam that the police pull to extract criminals from hiding. Of course, I don't know what they would do if someone other than the intended recipient of the warrant were to try to pick up said items. They might just claim that they will only release it to their intended target.

Odd then, seeing as how both he and I have had background checks recently, him for working in the financial industry [tech, not a broker lol, so he didn't cause this mess] and me for well, obvious job related reasons.

First of all, ignore people who only post the negative. Second, try searching the NJ govt sites to see if you can claim your funds on your (or your father's) own. Failing that, contact the website that knows about your funds.

Some time ago, I learned of money I was due. It turned out to be for insurance taken out on my first mortgage. The claim was legit, but I never would have gotten the money back, but for the assistance of a webcrawler who knew about this particular bit of law.

I think I paid ten percent of what I was owed, and although I hated to pay for something that was due me, I was glad to get my money.

Each state treasury has a site as they are required by law to hold that money. Forgotten bank accounts, property found in forgotten safe deposit boxes, refunds from FHA mortgages, etc.

So check the NJ state site as suggested, there should be a link to the state treasures site.

Yup I checked the state treasuries site, lol as it turns out it linked me back to the original website. Personally, I'm trying to remember if I got my last paycheck from Radio Shack. Had to abruptly move due to Dad changing jobs and can't recall if I was able to pick it up. So that may be it.
Failing that, it could be something of Dads, who knows.

As for the site, and the negative parts, I did some research on the site and reviews. Most people who found stuff, were able to have it mailed to their new address and no cops holding the checks LOL.
