Now tell me this.

Why don't more people admit to believing in Satan?

We've all been in situations where the hairs on the backs of our necks move in fear. We've all broken out in sweats for no apparant reason other than a place seems spooky. And what does spooky mean anyway? Somethiing to fear (of the unknown perhaps) and what unknown?

God?

or Satan?

It's things like that which keeps the image and the belief in Satan very much alive.

And yet you don't get many people admitting to believing in him.

Why not. His presence is more tangible than God's. Still spiritual, but we have the evidence of our own reactions to rely on. If the body can act in a certain way when we meet something unkown and terrifying without actually seeing it, does that not mean that we have a strong belief in evil and in Satan himself?

But we just don't talk about it...

:)

i'm agnostic....which means i'm a cowardly aetheist

I dont believe in god, but i'm afraid of him. Satan, on the other hand? I'll kick his arse...

Maybe this is me just taking an idea and running too far away with it, but devil "worshippers," as they call themselves, are pathetic. It's one thing to say you believe in Satan and an entirely different thing to worship him. I think they're just cowards -- they can't think of any other way to get back at Christianity, so they cop out and try to rebel while functioning under the same paradigm as the Christians... Like Maynard Whatsizface from Tool... I used to LOVE Tool but ever since I heard that he thanked Satan during an acceptance speech at some awards show, I feel terribly let down every time I hear their music.

As for why more people don't fess up to believing in Satan... Maybe they're afraid that if they do, all the things that happened in "The Exorcist" will happen to them. You know, power of suggestion type reasoning. The mind is a powerful thing... Lol I'm SO happy I saw that movie after I decided I was an atheist, because if I saw that movie as a Christian I would have died of a heart attack to think that there was such an evil power in the world. I mean, holy crap, I had about twelve heart attacks watching it and I don't even *believe* in the devil.

I guess I'll just go to bed and wait for the nightmares to come...

Stateblayde how can you be afraid of a god you don't believe in?

I wasn't thinking of the worship of Satan, just the belief in him. It just seems that people can believe in him more than the other guy.

and I don't even *believe* in the devil.

But it still frightened you even though you knew it was only a film. Ever had the same feeling whilst watching "The Ten Commandments", "The Robe" or "Spartacus"?

:)

Satan isn't evil, he's just God's prosecuting attorney. Lucifer is the Christ Spirit. The antichrist as described in the Bible is the idolotry perpetrated by many people today; the worship of a doctorine over what God tells them personally. There is no hell, except the ones we create on earth and the Messiah will come the day after his arrival.

I'm not afraid of Satan: I just had dinner with him.

Next time you see him, tell him he can't have that refund on my soul. Buyer beware, and all that :)

Ah, see... there's the problem. Satan doesn't want to buy anybodies soul; those who have souls that are worth anything would never sell them and those who would sell their soul aren't worth buying.

In your case, I don't think it was about buying your soul; rather he was just trying to buy some time so he could look into those eyes a little bit longer... But, then again, you knew that. ;)

on the contrary, Birdy, even those whose souls are the ones worth having will sell them. now, getting them to sell it is the trick, and the FUN bit!

anyone will sell their soul if properly motivated. anyone.

morning P_Pman.

I occasionally come across some of the most evil bastards in the world - those they execute in the States. Lifers for life here in France. If that's the worst satan can do, he's pretty pathetic.

On the other hand, there are some divine wee lassies on Deauville Plage in summer, so that gives me faith.

If I get shit scared it's not because of satan - it's because I'm about to be caught.

Right I'll book my ticket today. I need a break anyway and to Hell with the Devil...

:D

I think if you believe in the *good*,being God,there has to be a *bad* being Satan, right?

Well,I guess depending on what side of the fence you sit.
Maybe God is the *Bad* and Satan is the *Good*?
I basically have no clue, put absolutely no thought into this post.

I just wanted to say SOMETHING.

Me,personally?

I believe when it suits me.

With a body like your's you could have just stood there and said nothing...

Forever...

:D

Satan is alive and well dwelling in the minds of politicians, and those who want to make decisions for us.
Evertime I hear of some new law to make me safer, I cringe and the hair stands on my neck!
Satan is alive in every country where personal choice and freedom is stifled by the rulers.
Satan is alive in everyone that points a finger at me and says I'm not living right, or as I should be doing.
Satan is alive in those who use children to obtain an agenda enslaving others. (gun control/confiscation)
Satan is alive in any religion that uses fear to keep you in line, rather than to show the compassion of that religion by example.

Satan is the fellow Osama is going to (or already is) have breakfast with! :D

I kinda think that you have to believe in both if you believe in one. Nature likes balance.

I'd never bad mouth either one of them, just in case. ;)

I have often wondered what the Christian Heaven is like. We all have a good idea of it's hell. I sometimes get the feeling that Heaven might be a boring assed place. Eternal bliss? Is that really such a good thing? Streets paved with gold? So what, if money isn't worth anything, all gold would be is a soft metal. Kinda boring... Spending all day praising God...

I'd much rather believe in reincarnation. Forever. Hell no matter how bad things get here, they are still interesting.

Look up some of Mark Twain's quotes and thoughts, he has quite a bit to say about Satan.

Of course now I have that creepy feeling that I really fucked up, I feel like I should spend the rest of the day saying I'm sorry. But then I am not a Chirstian. Though I do believe in Jesus, and that he died for us on the cross.
