I finally gave in and accepted a job offer. I'm sure I should be really excited, but now I have to actually start working again. I think I've forgotten how though they'll probably remind me.

I hope you will be very happy! :rose: :rose:

Edited to add: But it kind of sucks, doesn't it? :( :rose:

Thanks, Yui!

It does kinda suck, though I feel guilty about thinking that way.

There are a lot of good things to be said about not working...

LOL!

The parents are happy. They've been supportively quiet about my sabbatical, but I know they were freaking out about it. Today was my dad's birthday, so I'm glad I was able to give him the good news he wanted to hear. :)

Try telling your new employer that for the first year, until you get back into the swing of holding down a regular job, accepting a pay cheque is all the work you will expect to be asked to do.

ROFL! I should have asked you to negotiate the offer for me; I only managed to get six months.

Me too. I've been off work so I could finish my novel. But then I came out of my writing induced fugue and realized we had no money...so I'm back to work next Monday. Getting back into the routine of being coherent by 6 is going to be the hard part for me....

Good Luck with your job!

Lady J....there will be some beauty in your work, look for it and you'll have it made

darkduchess -good luck in the new job :)

This too shall pass...

I liked the doing nothing, but I prefer the paycheck.

Sincerely,
ElSol

I like the retirement and getting the pension cheque. The downside is that it took 42 years of work to get here.

there is nothing i would like better than to be independantly wealthy and not have to work. i SOOOOOOO understand where youre coming from. after several years of working on and off...going to college and taking care of mom, im now working full time and ... 'scuze me for sayin it but...fuck! i hate it. could just be the job i ended up with. hrm....still thinking about winning the red neck retirement fund, but you know what they say... you can't win if'n you dont play.
good luck to you on your new venture, love. i feel certain itll be better then the hell ive chosen.

I haven't worked "for" anyone (other than the self-induced domestic slavery) since 1993 -- and I know I'd go quietly insane if I ever had to do so again. If it became a financial necessity, I'd expand my "consulting" and web design "work" into a "real" business -- and probably whore my writing.

Are you sure? I know a vocation and location where I may be able to guarantee your ability to sleep your way up to lower-middle management.

...and you'll get a promotion every time your immediate supervisor does.

...I'll want to keep you directly under me after all...

LJ, you're terrific! I hope you get a boss who appreciates you.

If not, have us go in to straighten him/her out.

Yeah, the whole schedule thing is going to be hard to get used to again, as will be the flights, the conference calls, the corporate speak, and tech talk. It was so nice to be unplugged and far removed from all that.

Good luck to you as well!

Beauty? Hmm. The first thing I have to do is fly to Vancouver for their annual meeting. I hear it's beautiful up there...

One year, I'm telling myself. I can do anything for a year. If I hate it, I can always quit again.

This past year is the first time I've not had a job since I was 17. This taste of freedom was intoxicating - I MUST find a way to retire early because so much of life is missed when working.

Sisters under the skin are we! There are people out there who love their work. I was hoping to find one of those jobs, but my resume keeps attracting the other kind of jobs. To make myself feel better, I've started repeating a new mantra in my head: Maybe I don't hate the work; maybe I hated the company I was working for...

Thank you, dearest!

So far, so good. I did everything wrong during this interview process except insult somebody's grandmother, and they're still being very good to me. I'll let you know if any straightening needs to be done in the future. It could just be the bait and switch...lure me in now and then suck the life out of me later...

It's not too late - what kind of salary and benefits are you offering? Perks? I'm not a morning person; is it ok if I sleep in?
