Spring is springing and the local skunk population is out in force. Their 'perfume' permeates the still morning air.

The adults are out seeking amor while last years skunklet's are scouting for territory to call their own. The new pets in the area, and those with long term memory problems are having to learn/relearn the blessings of screwing with skunks. This should last about a month.

Skunk season lasts 12 months of the year where I live. Actually, I think October is the worst for finding them smashed on the road.

For anyone facing the task of cleaning up a dog that has been sprayed, this is the ONLY process that really works. It's SCIENCE folks. We keep a kit with 3 quarts of hydrogen peroxide and all of the other ingredients in our laundry room at all times.

"For pets that have been sprayed, bathe the animal in a mixture of:
1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)
and a teaspoon of liquid detergent (Dawn works best to break down the oils in the skunk spray). After 5 minutes rinse the animal with water. Repeat if necessary. The mixture must be used after mixing and will not work if it is stored for any length of time."

Do not believe the old wives tale. Tomato juice does not work.

"Bathing an animal in tomato juice seems to work because at high doses of skunk spray the human nose quits smelling the odor (olfactory fatigue). When this happens, the odor of tomato juice can easily be detected. A person suffering olfactory fatigue to skunk spray will swear that the skunk odor is gone and was neutralized by the tomato juice. Another person coming on the scene at this point will readily confirm that the skunk spray has not been neutralized by the tomato juice."

Walking in downtown Denver I swore I smelled a skunk. I was near Cherry Creek and there is some wildlife around. Smelled it the next time I walked past the same corner and then the time after that.

No skunk. Just another medical pot shop.

I drove over a frisbee skunk (aka roadkill skunk) the other day coming back from lunch and my car tires reeked of skunk for a day.

i love that smell, but there are times when i feel like it's getting a bit much. a gram of some shit can stink up the main room of my fucking house from someone's pocket while in cellophane. it's fucking nuts.

What happens if you put that (peroxide) on a black dog? Does it turn it gray?

I haven't seen skunks yet, but the possums are committing vehicular suicide at an alarming rate

Is there ever a good time for that type of aromatherapy?

Getting sprayed did not slow down the hellhounds.

They killed the fucker.

And yes, we too have learned to stock up on peroxide.

It doesn't work. Period.

There's also a recipe that is based on laundry soap and baking soda, or was it vinegar and laundry soap? I doubt that it's vinegar and baking soda.

:D

Hmmm...

Hmmm...

Figgered it didn't - wives' tales abounded in the Fifties. ;)

You're dating again? Good!

That time of year doesn't happen until september-october up here.

I've never seen a skunk in Florida, though I suppose there are some. Florida roadkill is mostly possum.
