I would just request that we respect the threadstarter's intent, to an intelligent degree. If the thread is about capital punishment, it would be inappropriate to flirt on it.
I agree. I also think that the time and place to bitch about such breaches of decorum is at the moment and on the thread that such a breach takes place - NOT wait and then start a thread to bitch in generalities.
Here's what gets me...people expect everyone else to do the work for them. They come to the board in search of topics that interest them and when they find none, they bitch or they leave instead of starting a topic of their own. It's lazy and uninspired. It's like lying on the sidewalk with your mouth open waiting for someone to drop food into it, and then whining because somebody threw you a chocolate bar and you HATE chocolate.
As the board membership grows, there will be more of everything - more silly posters, more flirty posters, more intelligent posters, more trolls, etc. If you're irritated that there isn't enough of x type of posts, then don't start something constructive, then you have no right to bitch when your point of view is not represented.
I'll admit, the BB doesn't always have something for me. I've tried here and there to start topics that I want to discuss, with varying results. But I'm just one person. And I get sick of people who come here, get bored/annoyed/irritated, and leave without contributing.
This shit doesn't get here via osmosis - it's PUT here by real human beings who take the time to improve the quality of this board. If hoards of little green men discover the board and start posting in alien language, so you stop posting, and then you complain with there's nothing readable on the board, it's YOUR fault. The aliens are using the board as it is intended to be used. You, on the other hand, are abdicating your right to express yourself.
My beef with A Black Day isn't that he/she/it doesn't have a right to his/her/its opinion. He/she/it does. However, the "problem" wasn't expressed clearly and no solution was suggested whatsoever. So I will distill it down...
PROBLEM: I don't like any of the threads. on the board right now.
SOLUTION: Start a thread about a subject that interests you.
PROBLEM: I tried that and no one responded, or I was unhappy with the responses.
SOLUTION: Quit being such a baby, expecting everyone to act precisely as you want them to. These are human beings, not computer programs. You won't always get the desired response. Post another thread. Not every thread is successful, never has been the case.
PROBLEM: My groin itches, and there's red lumps on my genitalia.
SOLUTION: See your doctor immediately.
