Even though the Shift Supervisor didn't. (And neither did my Floor Super.)

One of my patients, a rather large gentleman of 350+ pounds, knew that I, being the only one able to move him was going to be called to get him out of bed. He had called his wife the night before and asked her to bring in a couple of items for his enjoyment this morning.

Well true to form I was called over to get him out of bed,e ven though he was not my patient. He, through some gentle manipulation made sure his R.N. was in the room as I heaved his bulk out of bed.

AS I moved him from the Supine to the standing position he dropped the two tan colored Hacky-Sacks he had palmed. When they hit the floor with a soft Plop he looked down then looked at me and in a quite serious voice berated me.

"Damn it boy, I warned you about moving me alone. Now look what you have gone and done to yourself."

When the R.N. rcovered from her shock she joined us in our chuckle. Unfortunately she commented on this to the Floor Super, who reported it to the Shift Super. I received a verbal warning about sexual comments and humor. (Even as they joked with the R.N. about her getting her breasts enlarged.)

Ahhhh well, what do I expect when I work in a traditionally femal field and am the only male on the floor.

I think it's funny. And heaven knows, everyone in a hospital needs to laugh as much as possible, especially the patients.

You got the warning when the patient's the one who did the joke? That's screwed up.

No, that's normal.

I happen to be the only male on the floor.

Several years ago I almost lost my job because one of my co=workers decided to lift my PDA from my work bag. She turned it on and was confronted by a picture of Pele, the Volcano Goddess. She turned it in to my super and complained about it. It took my insisting on the super calling in the co-worker and asking her how she came to be in possesion of the PDA. (She finally admitted to taking it from my bag.) Even so I was censured on the picture on my PDA.

Especially on a unit like mine, an Oncology Unit.
