Well I might be busy soon enough.

recently my wife and I decided that renting properties was useless. Because of this, and the property values here in South Florida we decided to start looking at Tornado Magnets. (ie. Mobile Homes)

Well despite the problems some of the older ones of these have we started looking at them. (Hey the newer ones stood up just fine.)

Well today my wife and I came across a very old one that truly struck our interest. The owner of the park want's a total of $1k for the trailer. Okay so it needs some work, the rugs need to be replaced and the roof seems to have a small leak. (I'll be looking into that tomorrow.) All things being equal though it's in good shape and I would have no problems moving in tomorrow. (Okay, the day after tomorrow, right after I bug bomb the place.)

Tomorrow I'll be talking to the owner of the park again as I look at roof. If I can work out a deal about when to start paying the lot fees, well the Cat may be busy with his very first self owned place.

Well Rumple, we won't be moving in until August. (Our lease in this house ends the last day of July.)

It will get plenty hot between now and then though. Good thing I like the heat.

Well if we buy it we'll be living in it, but it does have a spare bedroom and friends are always welcome. (As long as you don't mind cats.)

Very cool, SeaCat. Nice to own your own place.

Well we shall see how cool it is if I decide to buy the place. That all depends on the roof and how much the park owner is willing to work with me.

Just remember to save enough money to build that Shelter room if there isn't one in your park. Sometimes those Tornado Magnets are more magnetic than others!!

In southern Florida you are required to evacuate from Mobile Homes in anything stronger than a Cat. 1 Storm. All things being equal though I already have to evacuate, my wife and I have to be in work during the storm. (We also have a system where the Cats are brought to work with us and stay in a very sheltered place.)

We looked the place over again today, and while we couldn't get up on the roof we did do a close inspection inside and out of what we could get to. We found some more damage, soft wood in the walls in two places. Nothing unexpected though. (The walls in these things are made of Particle Board. It gets wet and it falls apart.) Not the easiest thing to repair due to the locations of these spots but they are fixable.

Much luck to you and Mrs. Cat. :rose:

If we do get the place it won't need luck, just a lot of work. (Hey something to keep me busy. :D )

If we get it and we do all the things we have been thinking about, the prior owners won't recognise it, and it will be a place to be proud of. (Not to mention it will be the only hurricane proof Mobile Home ever lived in. I know the kind of work I do when I get going. Have you ever heard of German Engineering?)

Heartfelt congratulations, Cat! There is truly no place like home. :rose:

I thank you even though we haven't made the final decision yet. We are leaning towards it though.

I do admit that it's kind of a scary feeling. We've been renting since we got married and now we're looking at owning our own place even if it is a Redneck Palace. (My brothers term.)

The work doesn't scare us, we've reworked houses. It's just the idea that this place will be ours that is slightly strange feeling.

A funny aside, they asked if we thought we could pass their eligability check which is a criminal background check, (I have never been convicted.) as well as a credit check to make sure I can pay for the place. My answer was I have never been convicted and I was going to pay in cash, (Okay with a bank Check) so I didn't see that as a problem. They looked at me with a blank stare for a minute or three.

Maybe because buying a house is something like *gasp* commitment? I mean, you're committing to a location and admitting to yourself that you're going to be there a while. It's putting down roots, however tentatively. And for me, it was the huge responsibility of a mortgage; I was finally, irrevocably, without-a-doubt an adult.

I still play like I'm a kid, though. :)

Well all.

I just finished another long talk with my wife.

On Monday we will be applying for the place.

In other words very soon the Cat will be a home owner. (Yikes)

Yep, we're putting down roots, we're going to be Floridians.

Hurricane party anyone?

Congrats Cat. I'm so pleased for you.

Well my friend I think I'm pleased for us as well.

We'll have to find a way to get you down to visit. (Although you'll have to give us a bit of time so we can get the work done.)

Congratulations to you both, I am sure there is a large crowd that can't wait to help with the house warming. I can't wait to hear all about it... I will send a gift with someone headed that way.
