Lucy felt a little shy with so many sets of eyes on her as the rest of the group settled in to eat, but she managed to speak well enough. "Well, I am from one of the Vaults. I... had to leave, well, to tell you the truth I was forced out. There weren't enough supplies to go around. Overpopulation, you know?" She didn't get into the specifics of exactly why she was selected for exile. Who wanted to admit to a group of strangers that you'd been deemed inadequate?
There was silence around the table for a moment after her explanation.
"Wow. That is so sad," the blond woman finally said.
"Yeah, that ain't nothing like the Miami Vault!" Harold interjected.
"Well, there's no reason to dwell on the past. You have a brighter future ahead," The brunette said softly. "I'm Adelaide, this is Michelle." She gestured to the blonde girl in the ponytail.
Lucy offered them a small smile. "Thanks."
"So how'd you wind up traveling with John?" Adelaide inquired.
"Well, I'd been wandering around aimlessly for a couple of days. I hadn't seen a single soul before John found me. "He rescued me actually. Saved me from some raiders."
Both women grinned, even Helen and Harold seemed amused. "That there's John, always out saving and protecting folk," Harold said.
"That's how we met too," Michelle said, grinning. "John's got a knack for saving people. He can't resist a damsel in distress."
"Mmhm yeah," Lucy agreed, though perhaps not as enthusiastically as the others. Luckily she was currently devouring brahmin meat so no one could see any hint of hesitation.
