ABG and I will be in Richmond, VA next weekend for Ravencon, sitting behind a dealer's booth smilnig inanely and trying to sell stuff.

This is in case any Litizens live in Richmond and were planning to go to RavenCon -- it's either a welcome to swing by and wave "Hi" or to carefully avoid the area and keep your head down. :nana:

You guys need to come to the con in Memphis. Lots o SCAdians there, and driving distance for me.

See what we can work up. We don't usually get as far as TN in our travels.

What and when in Memphis. I am here and don't know anything, although I am new here. (recently freed from the bondage of marriage!)

Oooh, thanks for the warning. If I attend, I shall put on my human disguise and try to blend suavely into the crowd. ;) That way I can gaze upon the Happy Couple discreetly.

Ravencon

I guessed skiffie but googled to be sure and thought 'wow, neato a conference [confabulation] named after Hari Seldon' but no, they went the obvious route and E.G.P's only known poem quothing about all over the place. And it looks more like a single rook* to boot.

Ah me. Obscurity where is thy fading bruise?

So what happens at the Necronomicon?

*If you see a flock of crows, they're Rooks. If you see a single Rook, it's a crow. (from a novel by Stephen Fry [The Star's Tennis Balls?])

P.S If anyone is in Pikesgeek, Bf in May and interested in precious gems I'll be there at the Rubicon.

MidSouth Con - LARP, tabletop gamers, comic book junkies, SCAdians, things of that nature all getting together, invading a hotel, and raising hell. :D

Don't live in VA...but curious to what you sell?

I dunno, I'm always stuck in the dealer's room. I suppose its the usual con stuff -- costume contest, LARPing, game rooms, videos, some authors, some movie/TV people, lots of drinking, hotel security being called...

Being a dealer means you never actually SEE the con. It's work. When the day ends, everything is pretty much done, you're tired and want real food, and you have spent the day smiling at people who say idiot/rude/dumb things to you, and in general you just want your hotel room.

The fun parts are seeing people you know and like, maybe running into someone FAMOUS (relative to you) and selling a lot of stuff.

I like smaller cons because there is more chance of escape. At bigger cons you are chained to the booth (metaphorically, although sometimes I swear I hear rattling).

Mostly beaded and wirewrap jewelry, although sometimes ABG plies his massage trade (depends on local licensing requirements). We do henna body art and also sell buttons (you know, the ones with smart ass sayings on them). ABG used to do turned wood goblets and cups, but we got tired of hauling them around and having a garage full of sawdust. I have some pictures.

Have to get some better pictures. Also have to get cracking on building stock. Lucky for long weekend.

Elizabeth,

We do take special orders with caveats -- I will try to get special stones and make pieces as requested -- that is, a bracelet, earrings, pendant, necklace, rings, etc. We do make to size. However, wire wrapping uses no solder, glue or other adhesive process, so certain styles are not possible.

Also, I charge materials, time, and how much aggrivation a piece causes me. If I bleed on a piece, the price goes up. ;) With beaded pieces where I'm working with English beading needles, I usually draw blood at least once per piece. Those puppies are sharp and the beads are TEENIE.

There's a Gem and Lapidary wholesaler's show coming up in May here. If you've got a particular stone you want and I don't have something in my stock, I might be able to find it there. Let me know in PM, and we can discuss it. I do work in precious stones, and I have some in stock, but they have to be rather large (which means I use manmade colored stones. My stones a certified by a lapidary. A "man made" stone will analyze the same as a mined stone (no glass or other simulating materials) -- but the prices are lower these days and the sizes larger, and the clarity is usually better).

I'd model it for you!!! ;)

Okay, this may be due to a lack of attendance on my part, but who is ABG? Is he someone here in the AH?

An aside, I love the work you guys are doing. I hope you do well. It's hard to get that sorta thing off the ground. I know. My ex makes her own Ren. cosutmes. She's very good, but it's still difficult to make and move them. I wish you much luck.

I'm sure we'll smell the horse shit on your hooves, no matter how "human" you look. :D

*waving* I'm ABG.

I just wanted to say thank you for showing up. I've seen you around a few times, but not enough for an abriviation of your name to stick in my mind. Now I know. I think you guys do great work and hope you have much success.

If -- and I don't imagine it likely, but I say it anyway -- someone IS in Richmond and IS curious, RavenCon is at the Doubletree Hotel Richmond Airport from Friday thru Sunday. AB and I will be in the dealer's room, company name Elemental Life. :nana:

Damn! I'd love to go and meet you both, it's just not possible. :( I'm a HUGE fan of ABG's. I haven't read Malachiteink yet, but will remedy that asap.
