Weired Harold, I've a question which, considering I've been wondering, needs an answe

Many people on Lit carry links in their sig-line. Most of the time, the links open a pop up and take me to the site. But the others, though much less in number, do not pop-up. It simply takes my to the site in the same browser flame. Why is that?

I'm asking this because I prefer the pop-ups so that I can leave them open for later and continue reading the thread. It annoys me when the link takes me away from the thread I've been reading.

So, Weired, do you have the answer as to why the difference inthe links?

Some of the signature line links contain a "target=()" statement that forces them to open in a new window -- many do not. Since you apparently have yur browser set to "reuse windows" for links that don't force a new window, those without a "target" open in the same window.

You can change your browser settings to cause EVERY link to open in a new window.

OR

You can right-click and choose "open in a new window" to force any link to open in a new window.

Thanks Harold. You sure do have the answers.

Tell me which one came first. A cheken or an egg?

Reunion. LOL

I worry about your eating habbit though. Chicken and eggs?

Gawd, I can't spell to save my life.

Not me, Paul Simon, he wrote the song.

The Egg -- all (female) chickens lay eggs, but not all eggs are laid by chickens.

That's brilliant Harold! I never thought of that!

Now I have a question: Who has the oldest (as in longest running) av, you or me?

A chicken is an actual chicken, while an egg is merely a potential chicken. Since actuality preceeds potentiality, the chicken came first.

Since you've changed once or twice, I'd have to say mine is the longest continually running avatar -- I don't remember when I first put it up, but I think it might be the oldest avatar still in regular use -- Siren held that distinction until she finally changed from her oversized avatar.

I think you've got that backwards IF there IS a "potentiality" involved at all, it almost HAS to come first -- once "actuality" occurs, the "potentential" is fulfilled and ceases to exist.

But the potential does not exist until it has been actualized. Before that it is merely a possibility.

A potential can exist without being realized -- every time someone hs unprotected sex, there is a potential for pregancy; a potential that exists whether pregnancy ever happens or not.

Once a "potential" becomes an actuality, it ceases to exist as a "potential" -- it becomes transformed when it is realized. In order for it to cease to exist, it must have existed inthe first place.

A different version of the question: "What laid the first chicken egg?"

Okay, okay. Lemme rephrase my question. Who has the oldest avatar still in use? I'm pretty sure I beat Siren (before she changed), because I'm the one who found the picture for her and I had my kokopelli at the time. I don't suppose there's anyway to find this out? For posterity, I mean. :)

The first cheken.

Shit, I still can't spell.

I'd bet there are dozens of usernames with avatars that were created years ago that will still appear when used; which have been dormant but still function.

I meant that are still in active use, Mr. Disembodied Flaming Eye of Evil.

Oh, who am I kidding. I'm just flailing about to get something distinctive attached to me because I am feeling unloved and going through a second newbie-dom.

No offense intended, Pyper.

BTW, I like your AV. I wonder what the tune could be. I'm pretty sure it's in 3/4 time.

Are you saying that my av is waltzing?

Pyper, you had that av up before Weird Harold had his av up. I remember, so therefore it's the truth. :)

Wow, I have the Mischka-certified oldest av on the board! Hooray!

None older than Pyper's Kokopelli or Siren's oversized ugly mermaid -- both of those avatars date from the UBB software days when avatars were a "kludge" using HTML in the location field. There are still some locations with the HTML in them but they don't display as avatars in the vBulletin software.

Pyper, I think yours is probably the oldest avatar in regular use, but mine is unchanged since I first posted it -- I can't think of anyone else who hasn't succumbed to the temptation to change "just for the holidays" or some other temporary fad.

Yours has definitely been identified with you longer than mine has been up, but not in continuous use.
