So my mother put me in charge of the family geneaology, and as I'm leafing through all the photos, records, family trees, and letters, I find out some really weird stuff about my family. Like:

My great-great-grandfather Emmanuel was a Mormon bishop with three wives who were all sisters.

and

My great-grandmother Hazel shot and killed her Greek lover, but got away with it because there was no witness.

What are the skeletons in your family closet?

Don't even get me started..

It's not so much as my family that is weird.. it's my kids family that is weird. My generation really fucked up the family tree. :D

Well, nothing really exciting honestly.

My maternal great-grandfather was a union organizer in the Garment District in NY.

His daughter, my grandmother, was a loud, proud socialist who was a stage manager in the NYC theatre. Apparently she was redlisted and spoke out vociferously during the McCarthy years.

My dad's only claim to fame was that while working for his father's drug store in Cambridge, he was approached by Timothy Leary. Apparently Leary wanted Dad to use his chemists license to procure him some goodies. Dad declined, however, thus ending his brush with the counter-culture.

It's not quite a family tree...

...more like a Family Bush (lots of intertwining, so to speak). The family crest features a beast with extra fingers and toes, if you know what I mean. What's the Latin for "illegitimate" off-spring?

Oh, and incarceration is pretty popular, too. An uncle just headed "up river" on Monday for a few year stint.

Yeah, this family is still making history.

Here goes....

A relative was a standup town councilman by day, and a rogue by night. When caught, his exposure to the townsfolk was quite upsetting to them and the press, and was widely reported. A writer was intrigued with the plot, and was to have based his book on my ancestor's exploits. If you haven't guessed by now it was, "Dr. Jekell & Mr. Hyde." It took place in Edinburgh, and his first name was Deacon.

A distant ancestor is Daniel Boone, his grand-daughter married my Great Grandfather, or was it Great-Great Grandfather? Her name was Joanna.

A viking relative Thorfinn, was the captain of the guard on Leif Erikson's longship to Vinland. He stayed at the settlement, and disappeared with them.

That's all the DNA I'm throwing around for now! :D

A distant ancestor was a peer,a Baron,in Southern Ireland.

He definitely had the family genius. He was a Protestant.:(

A non-proven part of my family history includes a grandfather who was apparently running guns for Castro. No one knows for sure, but evidence points to this being the truth.

Holy shit! I think we could be related. Daniel Boone is some how related to me too. I just can't remember how. I'll have to find the book.

Damn good thing we haven't exchanged naked pictures of each other.. being almost related and all. That would be sick.. in a humorous way. Or is it humorous in a sick way?

:D
