The snow crumbled off the latches of his boots with a few swipes of his gloves and Jake slipped out of the concrete antiques. Luckily his best friend Kyle's dad wore the same size ski boot as Jake, otherwise he would have found himself stuck at home helping his father shovel out the driveway. Four day blizzards make for excellent skiing with friends, not an enjoyable afternoon tossing ten pound shovels of frozen water. Instead, a weekend jaunt on Mount Redding's freshly groomed slopes.
Peeling off his jacket, he reminded himself to find a new one, the hours in the gym after hockey practice were starting to pay off, he examined the lodge for any of his friends. Kyle and Derek had decided to take another lift, leaving Sara, April, Bethany, and Jason The bar might be an ideal spot for one of the girls to curl up next to the fire with a hot chocolate, but Jake guessed if any were in from the cold they'd be up in one of the rooms spiking that hot chocolate with one of the assorted bottles of booze pilfered from their parents.
He was about to make his way upstairs to see if anyone else was taking a break when he felt a gust of cold air on his back and heard a familiar voice. That voice made him smile inwardly though he knew, he knew, it should not.
