Weee typos!

Why is that you never see them until you hit submit, same with the word drops and you can't do anything about them now? What happened to the feature in poetry/story submission at the author's panel that you could go in and fix flubs while it was still pending?

you don't see typos until after you hit submit because either the font changes or the background colour changes, thus tricking your eyes into thinking it's reading something new. it's a great way to run a last edit on work you have been editing over and over again - change the font or the background.

my guess on the impossibility of fixing flubs is that maybe the original and the flub fix were both being stored on the site and it was making twice the work. just guessing there though.

I thought you were kidding about the color of the screen, but damn that makes perfect sense.

I think I read my stuff more critically when it is out there for others to read, but I will totally try the change the font etc technique

Eh, typos schmypos. I worry about them lots less here than elsewhere. A typo or two doesn't really bother me in an otherwise good poem though I notice it--shit happens. It's the pattern of errors that tells me the person either didn't take the time to proof it at all or actually doesn't realize they've made all those mistakes that ruins a poem for me. :)

Typos

Two suggestions:
1. Use a spell checker (write in Word, then cut and paste)
2. Use a spell checker (ieSpell is a good one) when writing online

shit happens

If the poem was perfect it would be in a magazine. A few flaws near and their
are just part of life and peotry.

I noticed the "pending" option had gone when I wanted to withdraw my last two poems. Does anybody know why it's changed?

I mentioned this to someone recently. It gets me, has gotten me, twice. I betcha that the editors were tired f all that sub/pend, check, delete resub stuff. I was SO very guilty of that. Oh well, it taught me a lessern er too ;)

ps, ty for the email about the bears

Thanks so much everyone. I was mostly wondering about the "pending" situation and not being able to go back to revise. I understand why they don't allow it anymore, but it was so handy when we had it.

And Rybka - I downloaded your ieSpell suggestion the first time you mentioned it some months back. It's a great program I make use of it often. So thank you on that as well.
