J-L's Wedding Thread :)

So, Mark and I found a matching pair of bands we both rather like. This is his ring. But the store refers to all sorts of confusing things like D-fit, comfort fit... We're a bit confused! Anyone knowledgeable about these things care to shed some light?

Also, opinions on said ring would be welcome :)

Nice ring.

When choosing a ring, make sure it fits. *nods* :D

22 carat gold is soft, prone to scratches and wears away. Elaborate decoration is lost.

If you are going to wear the rings all the time, 18 carat or even 9 carat is more practical. Engraving on the outer side of the ring can get grubby.

It depends if you are going to take the rings off for washing hands, washing up, housework etc. If you are, they can be soft gold and decorated BUT there is a real chance that you will lose them by leaving them somewhere.

If you are going to wear them ALL the time, simple design, plain and harder gold is better.

it was a nightmare to figure out what kind of gold and how "wide" the ring should be when i bought for lucky. if it is too wide, when you bend your finger, you'll feel uncomfortable.

however, you should head Oggs advice. if you both work hard with your hands, ie: outdoors stuff or work with chemicals blah be blah, then you should go with the hardest gold. 18k is good. (lucky is about the worst with how she works with her hands and her ring is working out just fine.)

having worked in the medical profession, i would steer you away from anything platinum as it is a BITCH to cut off if need be. (morbid thought i know but still...)

good luck~ :rose:

I believe the "comfort fit" might refer to the edges of the band. Some wedding bands have sharp edges that can be uncomfortable. I have one that I rarely wear because of that. The comfort fit option may round/bevel the edges a bit for better wearability. I like the contrast between the brushed finish and the shiny finish. Very nice ring. Congratulations.

It does. My husband has a comfort fit band. The edges are rounded. It not only makes it more comfortable to wear but it also decreases the likelihood of getting it caught on anything.

I can't give an opinion on the ring as the picture is showing as a x for me.

Got nothing to add, except the rings look cool. At 9c, the probem Og mentioned with gold wearing down probably won't be a problem. A higher carat might have polished the velvety surface over the years.

Thanks a lot Ogg. Mark will be doing a lot of work with his hands very soon (expect an announcement on that later, and no I'm not pregnant. I think. Uhm... can I get back to you on that actually? LOL). And I absolutely *love* the style, in white gold (can't afford Platinum anyway Vella but thanks for the heads up).

We've been sized at the jewellers and they are perfectly happy to re-order if the set doesn't fit. Not too worried about that at my end because its the same size as my engagement ring and that fits just fine.

Thank you all for your comments. The rings are comfort fit so yay for smooth edges!

Only problem I forsee now is when we get the rings through I'll be wanting to get married ASAP and its a loooong way off :(

They're so pretty! Awww, you guys make me happy with your happiness.

The Earl

I like the combination of brushed and polished gold. It's simple and elegant and lovely.

Earl - *hugs* Thank you. Find a suit, don't think you're not coming to this wedding :p

McK - *smiles* I know, I think that's why we love them so much. Also? White gold rocks. Yellow gold and us don't mix.

Mark is now barred from this thread... because...

DRESSES!

Need opinions. Which would look best on a rather... curvy girl?

http://www.katrinamariedesigns.com/WG325.htm (I REALLY like this one!)

Still debating going to Morgana and getting one made. Problem is keeping the proprietress from spilling the beans to Mark *laughs* they know each other very well.

Gah. Need more sites. Anyone got any ideas?

I find myself leaning more towards the one you "REALLY" like as well. I like the simplicity of the cut; I think it would be flattering simply because it's a bit fitted -which would make your waistline noticeable- and because you have the opportunity to put your chest out there for the Va Va Va Voom effect. :D The sweetheart neckline and the "V" at the waist draws the eye down, which (to me) has a slimming effect. I think the sleeves are gorgeous... I'd go without the added jacquard trim at the neckline, but like it on the sleeves and waist. (Like this.)

I do hope you plan on sharing pictures when it's all said and done! :)

There will be LOTS of photos. A photographer we've been looking at does wedding albums and a CD of your photos as well. He did the photos at a friends wedding and is a friendly, likeable man as well as professional. Also has a way of reining in overenthusiastic children without snapping or sounding too saccharine :) In other words, he's perfect! I just hope he's still in buisness two years from now *laughs*

On that note... debating bringing the wedding forward. The time we were planning (August 2009) is my graduation year. It dawned on me today I'll be spending a year freaking out about my wedding AND my thesis. Which did *not* seem like a good plan. So Mark and I are actively discussing August next year (2008)... how in heck do you just pick a date?!

.. I should rename this thread "J-L's Wedding Neurosis Thread"

The first one looks more like a wedding dress to me, but I agree with McKenna on the neckline of the second. I think it would accentuate the positive. ;)

I see what you mean, but I'm not too bothered if it doesn't scream "wedding dress". Actually that would probably be a good thing, I can use it for Goth Weekend too then *giggles*

I think I'm going to stare at lots of dresses, pick out all the bits I like, then have one custom made. I want cream and emerald green, and a lot of places with "set" dresses don't do them in cream, let alone both! Problem is I can't sketch for toffee. Mark can, but that would spoil the surprise.

I'm gonna have to pick the one that you *really* like as well. I'm always a fan of clean, simple lines and I think you'd look beautiful in a dress like that.

The Earl

I love the second one too - simple yet elegant. Getting it made will allow you to have it in the cream and green and also be a perfect fit to you. (And possibly a bit cheaper)
Both my husband and I had our wedding bands made, mine is gold, his is white gold and we had them inscribed in French with "Desire no other" We get comments on them all the time - the jeweller even asked if he could use the idea on other jewellery.
Have fun planning your day!

Oh don't worry, you'll have plenty of time to start one of those threads too.

Btw, like the others said, dress #2.

Earl - *blushes* thank you. Its beautiful and the more I look at it the more I like it. Showed it to mum last night and she heartily approves.

Ness - I'm having the dress made and yes, hopefully it will be cheaper. We thought about having rings made but we both quite like the double bands. Engraving... we hadn't really thought about to be honest.

Liar - don't. I'm neurotic enough about it NOW *laughs* thank you for the dress opinion :)
