Thanks Jon.

Considering the thread was created in June 2021, I was pleased to learn that it’s still somewhat semi active, with the last post being a few weeks ago. Bisexual 29 year old British male living in Beijing. Have been in an open relationship with boyfriend (Chinese) for the entirety of the 3 years I’ve been living here. Would love to make some contacts, for both fun and friendship, or preferably fun friendships. I don’t deny that online chatting is fun but I am completely willing to meet in person if I’m lucky enough to score a decent conversation. Look forward to chatting with you guys ;)

I am also interested in connecting to people through wechat. I am a 26yo Latino living in Beijing, looking to make some like-minded friends or play partners. The community seems quite small and hard to find here, so it would be great to connect with you :)

What is the night life like in China for those of you that are not Chinese? Are there clubs where you can meet Chinese women that speak English? Really curious what it would be like to live in a different country.

While there are no bars/clubs that exclude the Chinese population, there are a few expat bars, which while not exclusively, are mainly foreign, the Chinese that attend which are usually bilingual. While it’s not something I look for, I have spoken to a lot of women in said expat bars out of friendliness rather than looking to hookup. Other than those few bars, which are partly owned by foreign nationals, the night life is dominated mainly by clubs that play deafening music, which I suppose wouldn’t be the right place to chat someone up anyway. While the majority of people in Beijing are not bilingual, which is not a criticism btw, despite English being on the core curriculum lfor 10/11 year, you will encounter people speak a little English. I speak a little Chinese but certainly not enough to discuss sex/chatting up etc but find that most young people who have simply been taught the theory but haven’t practiced initiate conversation to improve their skills. I am sometimes still surprised at the range of level: I’ve had 55 year old grandfathers speak excellently well and 18-year olds not able to speak a word of English. I would like to give you a more scientific answer but I simply can’t because it’s unpredictable!!! As for other languages, I can’t really comment much, all I know, or certainly what I observe - as a lot of my friends are learning it, is that learning Spanish as a 3rd language seems to be really popular here. There is also a huge Russian population here but the language is sooo much different; by contrast, the sound of half of the Roman consonants exist in Chinese.
